Lets Start Our Highest PER Players - DeRozan 6th Man
Does anyone else think we would be significantly better if we started our highest PER lineup.
Lowry = 19.4
Lou Williams = 19.7
James Johnson = 18.8
Patrick Paterson = 15.6
Jonas Valanciunas = 20.2
Defense
This lineup is our best defensively with James Johnson helping rebound, block shots, and guard the perimeter.... Lou Williams is an underrated perimeter defender and gets a lot of steals
Offense
We have three 3 pt shooters in this lineup with Lou, Kyle, and Paterson. Great spacing for a cutting James Johnson as well.
Bench
Vasquez, Ross, DeRozan, Amir.
These guys all have experience playing together. We can almost have a POD system like Kentucky and put them all in together for change of pace

That actually looks like a great line up. But Casey doesn't have the stones to bench Derozan.

I would be in favour of this, Lou is a much more effective scorer than DD
TBZ for the win

Prior to PPat's slump a sports writer made the case for PPat being an Allstar.

Id be down but Lou's effectiveness is that he's a hog. He provides little else.
Sounds like DeRozan LOL, but DD does pass rebound and defend better.

Lou Williams a good defender?? He's just as bad as Vasquez. Steals aren't indicative of good defense it means you gamble a lot.
I agree it would be interesting to see Derozan benched, but Casey doesn't have the balls to do it.

The best lineup defensively doesn't include the teams best defender?

That's debatable at best. And even if true, he and Amir don't play the same position anyway...

Stop trying to change everything. No matter what we do with the current collection of players we will always end up regressing back to the mean. We are a 3 seed, 2nd round team. That is it.
Just go back to the original lineup of Lowry, Derozan, Ross, Johnson and Valanciunas. No more experiments. Nothing is going to work. There are fundamental things wrong with this team that cannot be fixed overnight.

Dwane Casey: "K guys were down 2 with 5 seconds left, what do we do?" "Run a backdoor cut for the easy two points?" "Your funny guys, that's ten laps, we Pound the Rock".

Ya starting ppat yesterday was bad timing, 1 for 19 first quarter, casey changing things up certainly didn't get impact. I concur start james and Terrence and force demar to 6 man duties. Good time to mix it up prior to playoffs, can't hurt , we are top 4 lock anyways.

I'm all for inserting Ross into the starting lineup and bringing DeRozan off the bench.
Val, Amir, Johnson, Ross, Lowry
Williams, Patterson, DeRozan, Vasquez

Williams, Patterson, DeRozan, Vasquez

We would be miles better if Lou started in my opinion. He's one of the best defenders on this team and DD does suck that bad...

Not necessarily. There are interceptions, strips, swipes, tipping passes (say into the post), and some other methods to get steals. You can get steals playing lock-down man-to-man defense and swipe the ball when he tries a cross over, or steals from double teaming and yanking the ball outta his hands... the outcome of a steal is the same, but how it got done is varying. Averaging say, 3.7 steals a game doesn't mean, "he's the biggest gambler in the league".
Steals alone don't make or break the case for someone being a good or bad defender, but look at the top 10 steal leaders in the NBA, some of the names include Jimmy Butler, Chris Paul, Tony Allen, Russell Westbrook, Jeff Teague and Trevor Ariza. Those are all good defensive players. Of course you will find names like James Harden and such with a decent amount of steals per game... so yeah, steals don't necessarily indicate how good defensively someone is, but the majority of the players who are high up on that list are either good or great defensive players.
