Next Year's Strategy For Bruno

Post#1 » by sweetcity » Wed Mar 4, 2015 1:29 pm

I believe this year was just about getting Bruno out of Brazil and accustomed to North American life including speaking English. I don't think Masai had any other intention.

Next year gets a little more important. We don't have our own D League team yet, is it possible Masai gets that done over the summer?

Next year I think Bruno needs to be trained to be a 3+D guy. Check out this link on Josh Huestis. OKC stuck him in the D League on a minor league deal specifically to build him into a 3+D wing. And so far its working.

Should this be the strategy for Bruno next year?

3+D was always the plan, but Bruno still has a long way to go in terms of actual basketball skill development (imo).
This year, like you said, was most definitely about getting used to Toronto, the weather, language, etc etc.

Also, I disagree with the D League approach for next season.
Bruno should be with the Raptors next season as a bench warmer (similar to Landry) getting garbage minutes regularly.

The plan should be getting him consistent playing time somewhere. It could be 10 minutes with the Raps or 30 mins in the D-League, he just needs to play.

I would consider an organizational failure if he wasn't playing 20 minutes somewhere next year. If we have our own Dleague team he should be developing shot creating skills with high volume touches. **** 3 and D. You can always settle for that down the road.

It will be more of a PR strategy - damage control.

He has a better chance of developing in the D-league, so don't bring him up at all next season. Casey has a track record of screwing over young players for the benefit of subpar veterans.

He is too raw not to play in the D-League, but the difference is, we don't have our own D-League team.

So I think you are a step ahead, which you should first get a D-League team, then we can have Bruno, Bebe and this year's pick to play in D-League.

As for his expectation, it is too early to think he can be a 3+D. I think it is best for him to improve his fundamental and positioning, some ball handling and footwork.

Get our own D League team and make it a training ground for our nba roster we don't care about D League Championships

Either you keep him and play him or you trade him in a package, there's no other way.

Btw, do you really think it makes sense to keep someone who most likely won't make the rotation on a good team for the next 2 to 3 years?

Hopefully they just release BEBE
On Gerald Henderson vs Derozan:
"Yes. Hendo is quite a bit better than DeMar.
So yes, I do believe he's currently the better player and do project that will continue to be in the future. I would also take Turner over DD."

Its insane to think he should should remain on the team next year, he has to play 30 minutes a game plus imo.

I think MLSE is too cheap to buy their own D League team. We should have sent Bruno to the Australian League with Deandre Daniels.
