Defensive Leader - Who could it be?

Post#1 » by Duffman100 » Thu Mar 26, 2015 1:24 am

This team needs someone who wants stops, who is vocal about people missing assignments. It's clear that there is no accountability on the defensive end from any of the players.

Who's available in the offseason? Who could be our defensive heart?

Could be JJ if Casey wasn't around.

Pretty sure JJ had sex with Casey's wife. Can't explain his lack of minutes otherwise.

You are crazy if you think you can solve defensive woes with 1 player. D is all about effort and collective team D.

There just isn't enough effort on the defensive end. I think we probably could have played better D if we played zone and force them to pass a few times to get them out of rhythm. Opposition always seem to be comfortable and they run whatever they want.

Obviously the defensive anchor isn't demar. I'm sick of him missing defensive assignments. There was so many times I've counted where demar let's Jimmy butler pump fake and drive by him.

But my thought is that we need that guy who is going to get in people's faces, make everyone work harder. Some like Garnett could be the difference, could get the team as a whole trying harder.

Our team looks like they don't want to ruin 'the good times' and the joyous locker room that they have.

Make Demar the defensive specialist. He couldn't possibly be as bad as that as he is at shooting, right?

This team is soft, no mentally tough people except Lowry and Hansbrough sometimes. I thought it would be more PPat, but he's not starting so he doesn't have that much of an influence in the game.

Garnett didn't do **** for Nets team. They were one of the worst defensive teams even with defensive coach in Lionel Hollins.

If you are going to have a good defensive team, it has to be team effort. If one or two guys are not on board it is difficult to play good defensive. This is fair criticism of Casey. He is not getting full effort on D, and it has being season wide issue.

There are so many issues, but I think biggest issue is the start of the season. First month or two of the season we were on pace for record offensive efficiency. They were winning by outscoring teams, and this got to their head. Bad habits die hard. Secondly you have issues around JV and his screen action. This isn't helped by having perimeter players who are very soft. Lou is garbage on D. Guy just wants to play with his hands rarely moving his feet. Vaz issue is well known, but bigger problem was Lowry lack of effort. Ross is mental case who goes through stretches of where just bad things happen to him. These things having ways of compounding.

Amir/2pat/DD/JJ/Hands IMO play with good effort on D. JV/Vaz is not as much effort as foot speed limitations. Lowry/Lou/Ross are pretty much where the problem arises and its mostly effort/mental focus. If we are going to salvage this season we are going to have get bulldog Lowry back, and either limit Lou/Ross minutes or get better effort from them.

Isn't all this more of a Casey thing though?

On a more serious note, unless you're thinking big like Gasol or Green, someone who might fit that bill may be Perkins. As bad as he is on the offensive end, his defense is decent (albeit a bit overrated). With more bigs blossoming in the league he may not be that bad of a pickup. At least he was viewed as a good teammate, and sets a screen or two.....

Or bail out Golden State on the luxury tax by getting Iguodala

Patrick Patterson...problem is, the odd time when his man beats him, no one rotates to him like he does for everyone else.
