OT - Woj signs 4 year deal...

Post#1 » by OakleyDokely » Wed Jul 22, 2015 5:53 pm

...with yahoo.

Adrian Wojnarowski and Yahoo! Sports have agreed upon a new four-year deal.

Wojnarowski was also pursued by Sports Illustrated. Time Inc. reportedly became uncomfortable with the economics of the deal after Yahoo's counteroffer.

Wojnarowski also has a deal providing commentary on television with FoxSports1.

First story Woj hasn't broken in a long time.

4 years is too long by today's standards. Wondering if this hurts Yahoo!'s flexibility going forward.
#Raptors are 7-1. In 6 of the past 10 seasons, a team that has started a season 7-1 has gone on to win an NBA championship.

I think they're still well under the cap.

Terms not disclosed per Yahoo's policy.

Probably puts them over the cap.

Good deal with the cap going up. Steal of the off-season.

Great fit together. Yahoo got exactly what they needed to get over the hump.

He's past his prime. What is Yahoo even doing these days? They're not good enough to beat ESPN and not bad enough to be Bleacher Report. They should have tanked to draft the next Woj in Shams.

What did you expect? That Yahoo was going to give their writers away and rebuild? At least they are adding piece by piece to their team, I just want to see a competitive team, there's only 2 or 3 legitimate winners anyways so we might as well enjoy this ride while we can. I also hear they added a new facility for their sports writers, in a very sought after area in the heart of downtown.

I guess smaller outlets are always going to have to pay more to attract/retain talent.

Great points. You know, on second thought he's not that old and Yahoo is pretty good. Who cares if they can't beat ESPN. Even if they were to declare bankruptcy to try and find a young reporter with more updside than Woj there's no guarantee they'll find him or that they'll even get back to the level they're at now. Might as well let it play out more organically. Quit and tank when it's clear you're trending down. There's always time to tank and there will always be exciting new reporter prospects ahead. Might as well enjoy what they've built while it lasts first.

I heard from my sources that Woj put on 20 lbs of "pure" muscle. He also had some awesome Instagram posts of him working not one but two phones at once! Doubling the productivity of his tweets and breaking stories!

He's going to be totally legit this year!
