Predict how many Wins the Raptors will finish with this yr

I have a bet with my friend about how many games the Raptors will win this year.

I'm generally an optimist, but most of the posters in this community usually seem quite pessimistic. Though polls sometimes tell a different story than the opinions of the most frequent posters.

Therefore, I was curious how many wins RealGM thinks the Raptors will finish with this year if we ran a poll, (and to give me an idea of my chances in winning my bet lol).

We got Demarre Carroll but also got worse in some aspects as well. I'm thinking slightly worse then last season and another 1st round exit.

The loss of Amir Johnson is going to hurt. I know he wasn't good last year but he was our best defender by a long shot the previous 5 years. Patterson and Scola aren't going to replace him.

I voted 45-48 for the poll. If I had to guess I'd say 46. I think we got better compared to last year but I also think the East as whole improved (at least on paper).

Id like to be given the chance to re-guess after watching the preseason and seeing the guys on the court together. There are a lot of new faces. CoJo / Delon / DeMarre are the guys Im most interested in seeing how they're being used.

It's hard to predict because the majority of the roster is still here from that epic collapse that started around Allstar break and lasted through the playoffs. That was some of the most dis-heartening basketball I've seen since Bargs and Turkoglu played together.

But here is why I think I am being an optimist:

Both our all stars missed considerable time last year and weren't the same when they came back.

We got rid of no defense ISO players and brought in team oriented defense first guys.

We focussed on offense last year, we are getting back to defense this year.

Lowry looks in shape.

Demar contract year. I believe in him and think he will significantly increase both his fg and 3pt percentages this season.

We lost Amir but I hope bringing in Joseph, Carroll, Bismack offsets that loss defensively.

Val gonna be better.

Patt and Scola add a dynamic on offensive end with their jump shot that we never had with Amir, to compliment Val and spread floor for everyone.

My bet is that we won't win less games than last year.

Therefore, 49 wins. Not looking good so far according to the poll

Well, it depends.
A healthy Kyle Lowry can net 48 Wins. 50+ will be on Demar and JV.

Edit: actually Im going to set the bar low to avoid disappointing myself. I say 42 wins.

Defense will be improved.
Offense will be worse.
Our second unit won't be able to win games for us.
Demar will be Demar.
Mild improvements from JV.
Casey will be Casey.
Carroll won't be as effective in our offense.
Lowry will be better than last year.
Patterson won't be a good starter.

So much depends on injuries, but I think the loss of Lou and Amir offsets any gains from DeMarre. 41 wins.

fair argument with some good points but i still don't like derozan being the go-to guy( i hope he proves i'm wrong) and the bench is lacking offensively which might be good at the same time because we now have role players that do one thing really well. for example, biyombo can help us with rim protection and rebounding, cojo is a decent playmaker and plays well without the ball, ross can stretch the floor and scola is a reliable low post player. i think we can win 50 plus if everything goes well, but we could win 40 too. so i think 44-49 wins with another first round exit is fair.
