Not sure why some of you guys are so high on JV. You'll be a better team with Biyombo as your starting center. The injury was a blessing in disguise for this team. Mediocre post offense just isn't worth having an immobile stiff at center in todays NBA. The Hornets were actually better on offense the last two seasons with Biyombo on the court. He sets monster screens and although he struggles sometimes to catch passes he still commands a decent amount of attention when he rolls to the rim. He gets extra possessions with his offensive rebounding and he is just mobile enough to be ok against small ball lineups even though he can be exploited a bit because he abuses teams so hard on the boards when they go small. His stats also tend to get better with more minutes. He seems to play with more focus and intensity when he gets a consistent 25+ minutes and over the course of the game he can wear down opposing front courts by crashing the boards so hard and relentlessly. We had a winning record over the last two years with Biz starting at center and a losing record with teh post gawd Big Al starting. There is precedent for what you guys are experiencing.

it would be cool if this would set some fire under Jonas and he would get into a better shape during injury time.

I actually think JV is in pretty good shape this year [based on his early play and speed, etc.], but the issue is that Casey has created a team environment and defensive schemes that don't favour a player like Jonas. On the right team he is invaluable, but until the system changes, Casey's coaching leans toward defensive centres like Chandler or to a lesser extent Biyombo. If we're keeping Casey long term, we need to trade JV for other assets, otherwise it's not a good match.

Casey didn't create the environment or create defensive problems for jv, the changing nba did.

It certainly is telling that we were 0-164 the last two seasons and then started 0-14 this year - before grabbing these 2 victories with BB at C when JV went down. When you factor in that Charlotte won the title in each of BB's first 4 seasons with them - it's clear that moving on from JV and installing BB as our C is the obvious move.

And that's what I find so hilarious. Who was it again that advised JV to put on weight?(coughcasey) Last night was a little reminder as to how JV was supposed to be playing if he hadn't of put on so many pounds.

I think JV would be awesome on our second unit then they would be able to score easier .

Anyone that says we're a better team without Jonas is...let's just say...very RealGM'ish?

It's been two games guys, Unless Jonas breaking his hand somehow fixed Biyombo's, we should cool the jets a little bit. We have too little front court depth, not too much. The good thing is if BB shows he warrants more time, he'll get it. Competition makes for better production.

So wait, what was the trade off between rehab and surgery? I can't seem to find an article that explains why he would choose one over the other.

I think it's about match-ups more than anything. To put it into perspective, there were games last year where Chuck Hayes was the difference maker. But for those 4-5 games, there were 75 or so where giving him those minutes would put you at a disadvantage. There's no question that having a big, slow center can be a blessing or a curse depending on who you're playing. I'm interested to see how these 6 weeks play out.

Jonas was asked to weigh up since he couldnt box out against stronger centres, but still you might notice hes kind of soft. BB on the other side gives it all, and not afraid of contact, the guy always hustles. Difference between them is Jonas has a midrange jumper and is better at the FT line.

The above has been said so many times as an excuse for his defense. If this is the case, then please tell me what type of "system" he should play in and describe it and why its different and why he would succeed as opposed to here.

He can catch a pass, has softer hands, millions times better touch around the rim, can post up, do a fadeaway jumper, make hook shots, better lenght and rebounding skills, should i continue?

It'll be funny when on the first possession of the first game Jonas returns, he blocks a shot, retains possession, then runs down the court and hits a transition 3.

Jorge Garbajosa averaged 8.5ppg and 4.9rpg in his rookie season but in his sophomore year he only managed 3.1ppg and 2.1rpg and he was out of the league after that.

That is because he destroyed his knee in his first season. Not saying he was amazing, but the injury essentially ended his NBA career.

Looks like he wasn't lying when he said he wants to work on his speed during this recovery. I don't expect to see a big difference, but at least a very slight improvement should definitely be there once he's recovered.
