He's being paid more than a defensive role player normally gets so that's probably why he thinks he needs to do more to earn his contract.

However, LeBron blew out ATL 4-0 in the playoffs and, as Arman_tanzarian noted above, Carroll has not defended well against LeBron, so it would behoove Carroll to do some walking before any more talking that LeBron can then use as more incentive to have another big game against him.

Good points.

Of course I'm not sure anyone defends well individually against Bron. Definitely need a team effort and that still might not be enough. He is the smartest player on the league.

Same, I've rarely ever seen Carroll do well on LBJ. Hey man I love Carroll but that matchup has given him the most trouble.

Demarre Carroll was easily the best defensive player on the floor in the CLE series. 34.6 DFG% and -10.1 differential or the series, much of which guarding LBJ.

During the RS vs CLE, 39.4 DFG% and -5.9 differential.

His D was solid.

You want to harp on his O, but the guy shot 34 shots vs CLE in that series. 18 of which were open 2+ ft, where he shot 33.3FG%, 28.5 3PT%. Im not sure, if its not just small sample size and an perhaps just an outlier. He had the second lowest USG on the team (only Peros was lower). Its tough to be critical of his offense.

Having watched that series, there was few guys who could handle LBJ during all those ISOs like he did. It should be fun to watch tonight, to see how he fares.

Excited to finally have someone who can at least make it tough on Bron. What a change from the last few years where T-Ross or Derozan were unfairly tasked with guarding him

No one can stop lebron. But what you can do is slow him down and limit him as much as possible. Lets hope Demarre can do that.

I like demarre. I really do. A legit 3 man on our team. But saying that, i still feel like our best 1 on 1 defender is James Johnson. If casey has a brain, if demarre doesnt work out on lebron or gets into foul trouble, please bring out JJ and not ross

Nobody stops Lebron. I can already see people ripping Carrol in the game thread because Lebron is playing well.

People need to tempter their expectations for him guarding Lebron. If he can make it somewhat difficult for him it will be a win but Lebron is still going to get his.

LBJ not really the best player to piss off lol

TBH there are players in this league that scare me more. Westbrook is the ultimate competitor, if LBJ had that same fire he would have far surpassed MJ by now!

plays great D, hustles, grabs boards, and hits open shots...cant really ask for any more

just please limit the dribbling and creating unless its off teammates penetrations and u have a clear lane to attack

I'm happy with this signing so far. Basically, he's playing as advertised.

Way better pickup than Hedo, Kapono....etc.

The second one was a horrible call. Defender wasn't set. Carroll was already in the air. Should have been an and 1.

Well, he's not just a defensive role player if he's shooting 50% from the field, 40% from 3 avging almost 15 points per 36, like he did in Atlanta. He's an efficient scoring, court spacing, good/great defending role player then imo. He doesn't need to change.

He's been playing like trash. If he's injured bench him.
