I think if we hire a defensive guru we need to be sure that they run a similar concept to what worked for us last year.

Established dudes are likely to want to change to whatever is "their thing" which may be a step back.

That may not be such a bad idea, but I would dig deep into his recent coaching stints, there are some red flags

Well he nicknamed one of his players after a dinosaur I never heard of, maybe the Raptors are a good fit?

At first the headline is a little off-putting. You assume that the writer is embellishing for clicks, but it turns out that he is the same old unabashed a**hole.

Darren Erman. From the Thibs/Greer coaching tree.

Yep. Our defensive schemes do not need to change.
Offense on the other hand could use some adjustments to get JV involved more.

Guys under contract don't generally jump laterally unless a head coach that they prefer to work with ( and have significant history with) wants to bring them in. Greer - long history with Thibs, and probably only came to us as Thibs spent last year on a forced sabbatical.

We wouldn't be offering a promotion, and he has no history with Casey, so it seems unlikely. The only exception is probably if its painfully obvious Gentry is about to get fired - which I don't think is the case.

Here's a NBA GM survey on top ranked assistant coaches:

Did anyone realize that the Bulls and the Cavs both have assistants named Jim Boylen ( Cavs) / Jim Boylan ( Bulls) ?
Weird I thought that was the same guy....

Aren't casey and kalamian defensive guys? Our offense was pathetic in the playoffs maybe we should do something about that

I really don't think his schemes were that good. We just played at a snail's pace so scores were low. Granted, he had to work around Jalen and Donyell, but I always found KO's defense over-rated.
