There are at least two, blockbuster sign-and-trade proposals the Hawks are chewing on regarding Smith (one from a Western Conference power and the other from an Eastern Conference big dog) that could dramatically change the landscape in Hawksville.

I bet the East team in mention is Detroit.

Please give us a link so we can read the full article.
If I am ATL I seriously consider getting something good for JSmooth, IMO JJ-Marvin and Horford is a more than solid 2-3-4 trio, if they can get a solid Center or PG or both they should look at it, I don't see the team as contructed being a serious contender.

Stuckey, Maxiell and Prince for Smith?

Boston, Orlando and Cleveland don't really have anything

Bargnani and filler for Smith?

Bet the team in the West is Dallas

The deal is probably centered around Josh Howard...

An 'insider' on the Warriors board claims that a Brandan Wright/Marco Bellineli/Al Harrington trade for Josh Smith is close to being done. Not sure how that would work considering Josh Smith's BYC status but still looks interesting.

Detroit is obviously a strong possibility. Prince would probably be prominently involved. Cleveland will make a play. The Knicks will make a play. I'm not sure if those last 2 teams have the pieces but you never know. The Knicks could do something like Marbury, Lee, Chandler and a pick or two for Smith and Speedy Claxton's contract. That's not great value for the Hawks but it certainly meets their cheap cost cutting ways. What if the Magic traded Turk and something? Doubtful but not ridiculous to think that they'd consider reshaping their forward spots.

Out west it could be anybody. The Blazers, the Sonics, the Warriors (Nellie would love him), The Mavs might dangle Josh Howard. The Grizzlies could trade Mike Conley and wouldn't need to match salaries.

It would be a sign and trade deal therefore Josh wouldn't have any BYC status until after it's completed.

Oh, ok. Thanks for clearing that up. Guess that makes the trade a lot more likely.

That Golden St rumour makes complete sense. Take on a decent vet and 2 underachieving prospects that Nellie doesn't seem to like for a sure thing just so you won't have to pay him.

Personally, I highly doubt that MB or BW turn into much more than rotation players down the road but at least Atlanta is buying low on both of them. And Harrington isn't Josh Smith but he's still solid. Your typical 3 nickles for a quarter deal but not without it's redeeming qualities for the cheap Hawks ownership.

I doubt the Warriors trade has any legs to it. If they wanted Smith they could have thrown a boatload of money at him but instead they 5yr/50mill'd Maggette.

Really?

I always was under the impression that the BYC applied to the player being S&T'ed.

Golden St didn't throw money at Smith for the same reason nobody has offered Deng, Igoudala, Okafor, M.Ellis, Beidrins, Gordon contracts, because he's a resticted free agent. That would have tied up their cap space for 7 days just waiting for the Hawks to match the offer. It would have taken all the control away from the Warriors on a longshot. They signed Mags because he was unrestricted. He was a sure thing. That's the same reason they made a huge offer to Brand around the same time.

I just double checked Larry Coon's site and I'm dead wrong. BYC does go into effect before the trade.
