OT - Surprising Draft Picks

Post#1 » by Hoop-la » Fri Jan 16, 2009 12:55 am

As the title says, what are some of the most surprising draft picks in sports history?

For example, The Houston Texans taking Mario Williams #1 over Reggie Bush who had been deemed the number one choice by almost about everyone.

that pick was not surprising in the slightest.

there was heavy discussion on taking ok4 first but taking dwight wasn't that big a surprise.

it's a tough question b/c as of late, players are less certain b/c of the lack of college skills.

i would say the biggest one recently was darko over melo.

Marvin Williams was always considered a better prospect than both (during draft time that is)

For me Vince Young has to be there...when you take into account before the Championship game there were talks of him being converted to TE..or a 2nd or 3rd round prospect..shows what one game can do ay..

For the raps.. I think Araujo over igoudola was quite shocking (reach to say the least
and C.V over whoever..

Russell Westbrook shocked me this year. Not "most shocking of all time" but I still did not see that coming.

1. LeBron James
2. Darko Millicic WOW!?!?! :o
3. Carmelo Anthony
4. Chris Bosh
5. Dwayne Wade

Darko Millicic was picked before Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade.

Yeah, I'm sure you really thought Roy was the consensus #1 pick. You're the greatest talent evaluator in the world - seeing as no one had Brandon Roy going 1st overall in that draft. SO surprising!
