Would u say Nate Robinson is better than Calderon?

Post#1 » by KSR » Mon Mar 2, 2009 7:29 pm

I would say so..Nate robinson is more athletic, he plays better d, and he's a better slasher than Calderon. Even though the guy is small he provides alot of toughness and intensity a team can build on. He's having an amazing season averaging 16ppg, and thats as a back-up..imagine if he gets starting minutes? He's a free-agent this offseason and there's talks that the knicks probably might not have enough to keep him. Why dont the Raptors give him a shot? Sign to an offer of like 4 years at 16 mill. Re-sign Marion for 9 mill a year for 3 years. re-sign graham, and Delfino if possible and let Parker go. Trade Calderon, and Kapono for Jamal Crawford. Draft Earl Clark.

PG: Nate Robinson/ Roko Ukic / Marcus Banks
SG: Jamal Crawford / Joey Graham
SF: Shawn Marion / Earl Clark
PF: Chris Bosh / Kris Humprhies
C : Andrea Bargnani / Patrick O'bryant

Thoughts?

I've never been a fan of Nate, so no.

He might be a better scorer, but definately not as a point guard.

Depends on what you want. If you like a scoring guard, Nate is the man. If you want a distributor, Jose is the man. If you want a bit of both, well then you're out of luck, because Chris Paul is taken.

on a serious note, nate is a dunderhead but he is mini-wade. the guy is a beast and is the best 6th man in the league.

Would you say that Mike DAntoni can make anyone put up great offensive numbers?

Would you see what happens to players when they are taken out of DAntoni's system? (Bell, Diaw, Marion, Tim Thomas et al.)

Would you see that Nate is neither a great scorer, or a great passer but works best in spurts where he comes and guns shots and plays in a quick pace as a BACKUP?

Would you keep your day job?

So...who's passing the ball in that line-up? Yikes.

Jose can't dunk over a 7 footer like Nate, so he's useless.

If they had equal salaries, I'd take Nate Rob over Jose in a New York minute.

Nate is a sg, not a point. So yeah, if you're into 5'9 shooters with temper tantrums, then he's your guy..

Nate is a one-month wonder. People who don't like Jose because he hasn't replicated his achievements this year from when he was splitting the job should apply the same logic to Nate. He has yet to do this for half a season, let alone a full season, and he's often a loose cannon. bump him on a drive and he goes crazy, looses his cool, etc.

He's a great scorer off the bench, but as a starting point guard who is going to put his star teammates in a position to excel, no.

I think he is as an NBA player, but as a point guard, I think Jose is better.

That said, Jose's defense as of late is really souring me on his tenure here going forward. Jose had better do some serious work, soul-searching and attitude-changing if he is to help us become a winning team again next year.

Nate is very hard to compare to most players as his athletic-freakiness is an intangible that is hard to put in context. If Nate ever learns how to harness that freakiness, make his teammates better, become a more consistent shooter, I think he could easily surpass Jose in NBA terms.

Id take Nate over Calderon any day, not even a question

but im not into players that couldnt move laterally to save their life, have 0 athleticism, are in the 5top worst defensive players in the league, and make basketball a chore to watch, so im probably not the guy to ask

Diaw and Bell are playing decently in Charlotte, Marion was putting up good numbers before D'antoni got there, and Tim Thomas was playing for a contract, but yea D'antni system does inflate player's stats to an extent

Yes, Nate Robinson always had the potential and the fire. He never received enough minutes in previous years.
