Also, Rubio no longer makers 80,000 or whatever people have been quoting...his salary was raised to reflect his importance to the team apparently but no numbers have been released.

Actualy they have released the numbers... don't have the link, but it was posted a while back. His salary was doubled to a magnificent 160,000 Euro. He can retire a rich man now.

EDIT: not the best link, but better than just my words

The news out of Spain last month was that Rubio's team DKV Joventut had unilaterally decided to double his salary on the year, from 80,000 Euro to 160,000. This is obviously an attempt to get his pay closer in line with what his value is to the team, as he's clearly their most important player. There's been some talk that Rubio's contract would not hold up in court if challenged, as a 6 million Euro buyout is obviously not proportionate to an 80,000 Euro contract. It's highly unlikely that it would get to that, though.

Laws are laws, and I don't know if he can give Rubio a rise on the "actual contract". Its not the 6 mill, but the fact that compare to his actual contract its huge. All Rubio has to do is take it to court, and refuse any raise given to him. The court would then lower the buyout or have the 2 sides come to some sort of agreement ...

The labour laws in most European countries are usually slanted towards the employee.

This sort of buyout is beyond any sort of reason and makes the euroleague look very bush-league in terms of player rights.

If the club is paying you 80k how can they demand compensation of 6M? I understand that there have to be provisions that bind the player to his contract, but 75X the earned salary seems absolutely preposterous and if this stands up in a Spanish court it makes their legal system look like a joke to their citizens.

One can say the court will side for national interest. Well if that is the case, than national interest means showcasing your prodigy to the world. Not keeping him locked up in some bush-league. Most Spanish people understand the prestige that Gasol and Fernandez bring to their nation. For an owner to tie the hands of one of the world fast rising stars is shameful.

Here is the funny part. The owner just admitted that Rubio is worth more than 6Mil to the club, yet he is only compensating the player 160,000 (after the raise). Stupid is what stupid does. This is where your lawyer tells you to shut your mouth and let him do his job to prove that Rubio is fairly compensated for his effort. LMAO.

Yep, and remember Rubio is on a contract. So that 80k is written in stone, even if the owner tries to give more money to Rubio, Rubio can refuse the raise and ask that the contract itself be changed (aka the buyout lowered).

If anyone knows the exact value of what a buyout can be for a contract (I am guessing it is based on the amount a player is earning) then we cna approximately guess how much lower his buyout will go. Even if the buyout is lowered to 3-4 mill, its still 20x his 160k pay, would that be allowed?

"he's a fast drive'n'dish PG with poor readings and horrible shot"

He can't shoot and driving a team. Too much young. Jennings is the worst sign by Bodiroga this year (the second worst is Brezec, so far, the 7 ft what can't grab a rebound :x ).
