Nathan Jawai commits to Boomers

Post#1 » by LittleOzzy » Wed Jun 10, 2009 3:49 pm

The Boomers have received a boost ahead of its 2009 training camp with news that Nathan Jawai is fully committed to the program.

Jawai, who last year became the first indigenous Australian to play in the NBA, will attend all Australian training camps this year and if selected will play all scheduled international matches.

With stars Matt Nielsen, Andrew Bogut and David Anderson unavailable and with Chris Anstey retired from international basketball, Jawai's 208cm, 130kg presence will be vital for the Boomers and he is ready to take his chance.

The first training camp begins on June 19 with two matches against China to be played at the end of the month.

Jawai will then return to USA to play in the NBA Summer League, before rejoining the Boomers for the remainder of the campaign.

I'm glad Jawai will be playing a lot of basketball this summer. It should really help out with his development and will keep him in shape for the upcoming season.

Good news.

I am wondering what kind of improvement Jawai can make before taking his seat at the end of the bench this year.

This guy needs confidence in the worst way.

Yup agreed. Unlike Calderon Jawai could really use the burn.

This is a good thing... he needs alot of playing time in a competitive environment.

Still not expecting much and still don't know if he will get a second contract, but at least this should raise the probabilities.

sorry, but before you call people morons, please take a moment to re-read the OP:

4 apparently key players are not playing. and we have no idea if he's going to get any burn.
and you stating that its obvious that Jawai didn't want to commit to the team - please provide your source(s)

Good to hear: the kid needs the reps and the conditioning. His first season essentially told us nothing about the type of player he is (or will be) so it will be interesting to see how he plays in something resembling game shape. He's a beast physically, so if he can even show a little awareness and conditioning it would give the Raps a bruising front court bench with him and Evans on the floor together.

I know he was not given much of a chance last year but I'm really not expecting anything from Jawai.

Hopefully he'll prove me wrong but I just haven't seen anything besides his size that makes me think he'll have any future in this league beyond 12th man.
