Doesn't MLSE have a policy in place that they won't go over the tax? I know they've said they would go over for the right piece to win a title, but lets see see them show the dough.

There was no Tax in Jordan's time. It started in 1999, after MJ retired and before he came back to play for Wizards.

However, while Jordan played, the Bulls had the highest payroll. I still remember the local SF paper mentioning: The best bargain in sports is having Michael Jordan play for you for only $35 million a year

Oh, cool. I remember reading something on the Bulls board that would suggest otherwise, but I am mistaken.

The big salaries didnt start coming until around 1999 with the first CBA. Players agreed to salary limits & salary caps in exchange for guaranteed salaries.

The Lux Tax was an idea of the owners to punish themselves for overspending.

Or was it a majority vote consisting of the smaller market teams/less wealthy owners creating the rule to protect themselves from being pummelled into oblivion by the rich hoarding all the best players for themselves?

I dont really believe in trading picks unless you are positive that it will be in the 24-30 range. Any team in a rebuilding mode, should do it through the draft. ie. the blazers and thunder.
