OT: Nuggets Give Andersen Five-Year Deal

Post#1 » by LittleOzzy » Wed Jul 8, 2009 2:55 pm

The Nuggets and forward Chris Andersen have agreed to a five-year deal that could be worth as much as $26 million, according to the player's manager.

"We're ecstatic to stay in the community," manager Mark Bryant said.

Andersen will make $3.7 million next season in the backloaded and incentive-based contract. He had a number of suitors, but said all along that he wanted to remain in Denver.

Good player, and good contract in my opinion.

except for his prior demons. that would always make me nervous.
totally wouldn't fit Toronto's style/type of player.

Five years? The man is already 31 and his only real asset is his athleticism. I'm not digging it.

They aren't paying him much money. Low risk move.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Get him.

Hope that Bird can keep on the good path and stay away from things that kept him out of the league.

Like this player and so do the people in Colorado. Fan favorite returns, nice story.

I would think the two were related at the time. Jesus, that was turrrible.

Anyway, good for him, he's like their JYD. And the incentive-based nature of the contract ensures that the Nuggets will (hopefully) get a motivated birdman for the duration of the deal.

He's a fan favourite in Denver, not too bad of a contract IMO

What did he have on him, weed? If thats the case then its stupid of him to use it while the season is in play, hes not earning $13 an hour so I can understand that but i wouldnt call it a demon.....

anyways, nice signing

He failed an NBA drug test for what is believed to either be Meth or Cocaine.

Well, it's backloaded. I'm thinking if he's making $5 million+ for being useless in the last two years of his contract, it could be a bit like the Marcus Banks situation we're in. But hey, Denver's trying to win now. They're a legit title contender and they want to bring back essentially the same team they had last year. So I understand what they've done here, especially if there are a lot of incentives involved for the last couple years of the deal. It's just... why not get Brandon Bass instead?

It wasn't weed. It was something harder, but the info has never come out. He did an interview during the playoffs, where he talked about "substances" and "demons" but said he didn't want to talk about the details.

I love the Birdman's game, but 5 years is a little too long for him. I'd go with 3 and a team option for 4... Or 4 years, with a $1 buyout in the 5th year. Turn it into something like Stack's contract - ONLY BETTER!
