Stat of the Day: Game 9 Stats (L.A. Clippers)

Post#1 » by supersub15 » Sat Nov 14, 2009 2:25 pm

Pace: 83.0
Defensive Efficiency: 107.2
Offensive Efficiency: 125.3

Game was slow as molasses, especially in the second half. At one point in the second quarter, our DRTG was 155.2. To be able to drop it down to 107.2 by the end of the game was pretty sweet. Same thing happened against Chicago.

4 factors of success:

Code: Select all

                      eFG%   FT Rate   OReb%   TOV%
        L.A. Clippers 0.500   0.271    0.316   0.157
        Toronto       0.569   0.163    0.250   0.096

Pretty tight stats (2 for them, 2 for us), but we take it thanks to our hot shooting late in the game.

Code: Select all

                                Toronto   L.A. Clippers
        Fast break points:         7           8
Points in the paint:      44          34
        Points off turnovers:     24          14

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Cumulative Stats:
Pace: 92.1 (18th)
Defensive Efficiency: 115.5 (29th)
Offensive Efficiency: 116.9 (1st)

We improved our offence (as if it needs improving!) and our defence (can you believe it?). DRTG is still too high, and I expect it to go higher by the end of the game on Sunday.

4 factors:
eFG% (offence): 0.533 (3rd)
eFG% (defence): 0.516 (23rd)

FT% (offence): 0.288 (2nd)
FT% (defence): 0.271 (27th)

OReb% (offence): 0.256 (18th)
OReb% (defence): 0.299 (28th)

TOV% (offence): 0.117 (2nd)
TOV% (defence): 0.115 (29th)

What has been our Strength of Schedule so far? That would be good to put everything in perspective.

Thanks Sub, I love how we average more pts in the paint than our opponents, seems like forever ago we had a team that would attack the paint. CB4 has really gave us everything offensively.

I expect our SoS to be higher by the end of the month... our remaining opponents have a combined 54-27 record. If we can be hovering around .500 on Dec. 1, I think we'd be in pretty good position to make a run. Looking at the December schedule, I don't see why the Raps couldn't go, say, 10-5 or 11-4.

Good to see that we're not getting killed in the paint or getting run out of the building this season.

Is there anyway to determine what our strength of schedule would be after we this road trip or before we played Clippers? It just seems like we've had a tough schedule to start the season playing so many Western teams where other Eastern teams have gotten fat records feasting on their own.

I dunno how, but I think our opponents' winning percentage thus far is .475 (38-42... before the Clips it was 35-35 for an even .500)... our opponents through the end of November are putting up a .667 winning percentage (54-27)... and that includes road games at Phoenix, Denver and Boston... so I would definitely expect our SoS to be somewhere in the top 10 on December 1st.

how are you coming up with possessions - are you scraping play by play data or using a formula with the boxscore stats?

Wow - thanks for the information. This is where numbers don't always tell the truth. We played -

Cleveland (top echelon team)
Memphis (ugh)
Orlando (top echelon team)
Detriot (used to be top echelon - now middle tier)
New Orleans (used to be echelon - now bottom tier)
Dallas (top echelon team)
San Antonio (top echelon team)
Chicago (middle tier)
LA Clippers (ugh)

That's 4 top echelon teams, 2 middle tier and and 3 bottom tier. Looking at it that way then that's 6 probable playoff teams out of 9 by the end of the year. Some of the teams have just gotten off to so-so starts like Dallas and San Antonio and to a lesser extent Cleveland.

I wonder who has had a tougher schedule so far?

Hey SS, would it be possible to come up with a prediction on the score the the Suns v Raptors game based on their offensive and defensive stats atm? I'm interested to see how high scoring it is.

There is a formula...it's:

0.5 * ((Tm FGA + 0.4 * Tm FTA - 1.07 * (Tm ORB / (Tm ORB + Opp DRB)) * (Tm FGA - Tm FG) + Tm TOV) + (Opp FGA + 0.4 * Opp FTA - 1.07 * (Opp ORB / (Opp ORB + Tm DRB)) * (Opp FGA - Opp FG) + Opp TOV)).

Thanks SS.

I look forward to this thread more than any other post game coverage.

It would be cool if we could see what the avg and deviations are for each league wide ranking.even if only on a periodic basis. It would put some context on where we stand relative to the league better than straight rankings.

That is just an idea. I appreciate all the efforts, and certainly don't want to suggest ne thing that would be a large effort, or that you would not be interested in. But if u can include those things easily that would be awesome.

what's the standard deviation for this on a per game? I know it converges well for a seasons worth of data, but what kind of +/- should we attach to it for a single game?

Not nitpicking, this is just for my own info as I want to generate 1st half possessions quickly off a boxscore rather than scraping the play by play data.
