Exactly. From my point of view, Toronto fans dump on Carter because he refused to break the code and take the locker room talk into the public.

kirbs wrote:Yeah, the situation on that Raps team sucked. Rafer was just terrible in every way possible, Smitch sucked, they blatantly lied to him, etc.

You know what? Many, MANY players have been in worse situations before. None of them quit on their team and fans as egregiously as Vince did. There`s a classy way to handle adversity... then there`s the immature way... then there`s the totally classless way... and THEN there`s Vince`s way.

You're right. Going to management and trying to resolve on court issues without running the team under the bus that's not classy. You're calling it classless because you want to believe it was. He asked for a trade out of a bad situation, he did it privately and it got "leaked" and followed by a flood of bad media coverage. Are you really that blind? The only classless individuals in this act are the Raptor's brass. But you'll keep calling out Vince because he broke your heart and took his talents elsewhere.

There, there. Poor thing.

I never said any of that (2nd passage you quoted) you fool. Why do you attribute it to me?

There are a ton of superstars who play for crap franchises. I don't see Lebron quitting on his team because Danny Ferry made the boneheaded move of trading for Shaq. Pau Gasol hated Memphis ownership but didn't quit on his teammates or fans. KG never quit on the T-Wolves even after Glen Taylor cost that team 3 1st round picks (the Joe Smith fiasco) and McHale made stupid trades. And Kobe didn't quit in 2007 when he was demanding to be traded from the Lakers. As an NBA player, you might not always be in an ideal situation, but it's your duty to play hard for your teammates who are busting their butts, as well as the fans, who are spending their hard-earned money to watch you entertain them.

VC quit on his teammates and his fans, and that's inexcusable. Raps fans have every right to boo him anytime he steps foot in the ACC, and that includes his number retired ceremony.

This, from Grange's just updated blog, made me laugh:

9. Lots of venom for Vince, as usual and here’s a good reason why people are still bugged by this guy. At one point in the second quarter Carter slides over and takes a charge on Bargnani. It was hardly a collision: Carter beat Bargnani to the spot, whistle blows, Bargnani stops without even really banging into Carter. But Carter gets up kind of wincing and rubbing his right forearm. At one point he signals to the bench to come out, but they ignore him, apparently. He keeps rubbing his arm. There’s no cut or anything, and really, what is rubbing it going to do? But he keeps rubbing it sporadically, just to let everyone know he’s kind of hurt. My daughter does this, but she’s eight.

I don't know how some people missed it but Vince 'injured' his right forearm when he tried to make that dunk in the 1st quarter which clanked off the rim. Heck even Leo mentioned he felt the 'injury' was from the attempted dunk. You could see him nursing his arm for the rest of the quarter & then LOL putting a wrap around it afterwards.

I enjoy Vince as a player but yeah that's typical Vince - he really babies any soreness or injury. It's best to ignore him & he'll bounce back no problem. Remember back in the Raps days when he had braces - omg, if anyone hit his mouth he would be checking his teeth/braces for the rest of the game haha. Again, my favourite player but yeah...haha.

What an idiotic criticism. But I expect no less from Grange. Why would any of this "bug someone", especially someone who wasn't cheering for Vince and the Magic. Why would he even make note of an "incident" like this instead of just ignoring it?

End of story.

The Vince way? What way is this?

Carter asked for a trade in the off-season but then after that he tried not to let it become an issue or distraction during the season. He wasn't constantly talking about it or restating his trade request. He let it be once the season started even if he wasn't happy with the situation. He only played 20 games for the Raptors in the 2004/2005 season before he was traded.

That season started well for the Raptors and Vince when they went 3-0 to start the season where Vince averaged 17.7PPG, 5assists, 4.5rebounds, 33MPG and shot 48% from the field. It included a game winner vs Portland.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLF_Bw4ZpfY

Then the Raptors went on an early 6 game Western road trip where Vince struggled averaging 13.6ppg, 2.8apg,3.5rpg, 29MPG, 32.6fg%. But after that road trip Vince started turning it around and was picking it up averaging 17.7ppg, 2.8apg, 3.1 rpg, 31.7mpg, 45fg% for the next 10 games before he got injured in Detroit. So, after a bad 6 game road trip where he struggled, Vince decided quit on the team by playing... better?

Also, if Vince got injured and was traded after his first 12 games with the Nets would that have meant he quit on the Nets?

Carter's first 12 games with the Nets in 04/05:

21.7ppg, 4apg, 6rpg, 41mpg, 42fg%

Carter's 20 games with the raptors in 04/05 over 41mpg

21.3ppg, 4apg, 4.4rpg, 41%

Carter 03/04 season stats:

38.2mpg, 41.7fg%, 4.8rpg, 4.8apg, 22.5ppg

Somehow Carter quit on the Raptors in the 20 games he was with them in 04/05, but his production level was around the same as it was a year before and also close to his first 12 game with the Nets.

Carter might have been unhappy and he might have struggled through it at times, but that doesn't mean he just quit on the team and didn't try to play through it.

But so what? No one is likely going to change their mind about Carter. Since you and others here are so appalled about not giving it their all, here is another target for your righteous indignation.

That's absolute BS. When he missed a dunk in the first quarter he held his forearm right after it happened, which obviously shows that he was hurt. Even when he went to the bench late in the 2nd quarter (or third, I forget), he was in pain as the trainer was trying to figure out what was wrong. Considering me and Grange were at the same game, I would think he would have been smart enough to observe what had happened.

On the first page of the Raps forum, there are exactly 2 threads which have anything to do with Carter, and one of them is the Post-Game thread.

So...1 thread.

So, forgetting a rather odd sense of proportion, you felt the need to enter that one thread of all threads...because why?

please. there are vince carter threads everyday dont act like this is news to you. most get locked because they end up in "vince quit"/"vince had nice dunks"/"vince is a whimp"/"youre just jealous and immature"/"youre a fanboy"/lock. eiether you were happy sunday and youre a vince carter fan, or you were upset and youre a raptors fan. if you have a photo of a guy making a game winning basket against the raptors, thats a vicne carter fan. they can go post in their own forum and stop trolling.

A) Contrary to popular belief in here, it takes more than being an alternate opinion to qualify as 'trolling'. For example, the 'Raps beat Bulls' thing is even more a matter of the past, and yet no one would qualify it as trolling, because...like Carter...it's a prt of Raptors history.

B) Unless seeing his name actually upsets you...in which case I would recommend therapy...having a thread among many shouldn't really affect your life one way or the other, unless for some reason you feel the compulsion to enter into and read the contents of that thread.

Basically, if it bothers you, ignore it. Or, if you feel it worthy of discussion/argument, discuss/argue with it. But just complaining about its exsistence is pretty much a pointless venture.

If you were to take a look at VC threads that have popped up on this board over the past several months/years, you would see that the vast majority were started by posters who are not VC fans...so, your solution wouldn't do much to solve your problem.
