Comparing this team to the 06-07 team

Post#1 » by CalderonFTW » Sat Jan 2, 2010 10:15 pm

I think we have a better team compared to that year but it's a pretty comparable team.

A more mature and balked up Bosh playing for his max contract.
A more mature with better overall offense and defense in Bargs.
A great PG combo JJ/JC and a very reliable backup in Banks. Compared to a great TJ/JC combo with Roko as a backup. JJ/JC/Bank has the edge here.
A good SF in Hedo comparable to Garbo. Hedo has the edge.
Demar at the SG. Parker was our starter that year and he was great. Parker has the edge here.

I think we have a much deeper bench: Amir, Sonny, Beli and Rasho with Reggie coming back from injury very soon. This year's bench has the edge.

All in all, we have a comparable team to 06-07 team. the 08-09 is however more athletic and more mature compared to that team considering a lot of our key pieces were new to the league (Garbo, Bargs, Parker (semi new))

It's only fitting that 06-07 team also had a very slow start with all the new pieces that BC had put in place and that team also made a run around the same stretch of the season.

I think the 06-07 team had one of the best records in the east post all star break.

Here is hoping. We really need that 4th seed and the home court advantage to get passed the first round.

33 games in, the 2006-2007 team had a 14-19 record. compare that to the current team's 16-17 record. This means that for the remaining 49 games, the 2006-2007 team went an amazing 33-16. looks like this team has pretty big shoes to fill.

Already discussed in the sticky thread:

And Parker was much much better than DeRozan.
Not as athletic, but I believe Parker is bigger with better handle that can drive to the basket, or easily shoot the ball.

Yeah, I do see the comparisons. Started off awful and then injuries piled up for other teams which we took full advantage of.

In 06 the east was plagued with injuries, I thought it was pretty easy for us to take top spot..
