My thinking is Jose is used to dealing with PGs and I see Wade as a PG not a SG because of Wade's handle and quickness. Wade has size on Jose but that is mainly useful if Wade posts up Jose which the Raptor D would switch on anyways or if wade shoots over Jose which takes away from Wade's driving game. Forcing Wade to shoot is better than a slow Wright or Weems giving Wade many driving attempts. Wade also is a play maker similar to a PG on his drive and dish so Jose who is used to covering PGs may be the best fit to cover Wade.

Banks could also work instead of Jose on D but at least Jose could give the Raps a threat from 3 on O.

Weems fits better into the "DD" role in the starting lineup: make hustle plays, knock down mid-range J's and slash to the basket. Wright is a good defensive player, but fares well against big strong 2/3's. I don't think he has the quickness to defend Wade better than Weems will.

Belinelli has played well as an offensive bench player and we need to let him continue to feel comfortable in that role. He fits better playing with the 2nd unit where he and Jose are the main offense with the other players (Wright, Amir etc.) being defensive / hustle players.

Weems is a good choice by JT.

Why do people still think Wright is a good defensive player? When has he shown that over the course of the season? The guy is constantly being blown by, his lateral quicks are awful. Johnathan Bender blew passed him, he doesn't even have knees.

Weems is a far more capable one on one defender than Wright. He also closes out on shooters as fast as anyone I've ever seen. Our stretch of games where we were the #2 team in opponent 3pt FG% directly coincided with Sonny's role increasing.

The sheer numbers do not explain what your eyes see and your heart feels.

Despite my premise, I prefer Beli off the bench, just for 3 reasons:

1. if he started from beginning in the first unit, he’ll be tempted to overdo (our guy is quite presumptuous by nature or personality).

2. because we finally can fully assess the Weems congenital weaknesses (more or less the same as DeRozan).

3. because, coming off the bench, the Pinball (MB) will have the right office, the right energy to prove, by discipline, his essentiality, his relevance, his “concrete” indispensability.

You can't let your 5th starter being out change more than it has to. With Sonny, you can run the same stuff and expect the same reactions from defenses, and he is as good a play as we have to guard Wade, as sad as that is. You don't even care if he uses his fouls, whereas if Marco were in there and got a quick two we'd be in real trouble. All that should really change tonight from Sunday is Beli's check-in times.

We need Marco to get comfortable in that 6th man role, the one he should have been playing all along.

I think Belinelli deserves to be a starter at that 2 spot, but I think starting Weems will keep the chemistry most consistent. Although Beli should definitely be closing out the game.
