Thoughts on Joe Ingles so far?

Post#1 » by nurseryc » Sun Nov 16, 2014 12:39 pm

He has been getting some good minutes since his signing. What are your thoughts on Ingles so far? What is his ceiling on this team?

Joe Ingles meshes nicely because he understands passing and spacing the floor. His court vision and ball handling are effective tools in the Jazz offense. He is willing to work on the defensive end and he's long enough to be somewhat disruptive there.

His ceiling is what he is right now. He gets the most out of his unathletic body. I wish he would be a dead eye shooter or better defensively, but he is an average shooter and poor defender. I think he is out of the league in a year or two. That being said he helps ball movement on the team and is a good glue guy. Im happy for him bc he is easy to like and is a good dude, but he is lucky too bc there are a lot of better players that are in the D league.

Good glue guys are usually not out of the league that soon. They usually have nice long careers. He seems like great secondary facilitator with good, not great, shooting. Lets not forget that he has a new offensive system to learn and that he joined the team 1 day before game 1, so I think it's possible that he might settle down even better. I like him as a coming off the bench facilitator for the second unit.

I think it's totally asinine to say he's on his way out of the league. Highly intelligent, unselfish players with varied skill sets will always have a spot, even if it's at the end of the bench. He helps keep the offense moving and is an adequate defender. I love having him.

we're 2-0 when Joe Ingles inbounds the last play with less than ten seconds left. Probably the best inbounder in the league

I wonder if older rookies like Ingles go through the same learning curve for shooting as younger rookies. Does anyone have his shooting percentages from down under? He may become a better shooter over time if the same curve applies.

Well, he's been a terrible rebounder, terrible shooter/scorer and middle of the road (at best) defender who is taking minutes from guys that would probably help our bottom line more.

But, hey, he can pass.

Haha, all that said, I don't hate him. I just don't see how he has earned the minutes he's getting right now. He really has not been above average at anything except passing the ball. In theory, he's a good shooter, but he hasn't shown it yet. He'll never be a great defender or creator. He is billed as being versatile, but really all I see is bland.

I like Ingles. He's exactly what you want out of a role player off the bench.

Let's also consider that Ingles has gotten a lot of minutes because Hood has been out. A lot of the lineups recently have been a bit goofy for that reason.

Ingles is like tofu - it's good for you, but when combined with other ingredients, it is hardly noticible.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

He is a facilitator and makes good decisions. Should only be in the rotation while Hood is out though.
