May be annoying, but it explains quite a bit why they are signing that guy, albeit un-guaranteed money right now.

If Wells impresses the hell out of management at camp, maybe there is another advantage beyond cozying up to Durant pre-contract expiration. He is an SG. Maybe they come to senses and trade Waiters.

I realize as bad as Waiters is, it would be asking a lot from Dez to pass someone that management thought worthy of spending. 1st rounder, but hey ... here is to hoping.

I don't see it, I mean at best he signs a D league deal. I still hope they can move Dion, but not for this.

So would you rather have Kanter(in OKC) or Jonas V?

Said the same on reddit, Val for me. He's above average on both ends. Kanter's great one way but just awful the other.

There's a reason Kanter was available for almost nothing and Jonas isn't available for anything.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Honestly not sure Kanter is even better offensively.

I'm very certain that Kanter is a better offensive player at this point. Kanter is also a better rebounder. However, Valanciunas is a better overall player. He is good enough on offense and solid on defense to be better, overall, than Kanter. I also think Jonas is primed for a final solid jump next year. Kanter is who he is. I've tried to convince myself that Kanter will buy in and give effort on defense, but I can't. He just got a max deal and he has no incentive to change anything in his game.

I think next year will be tough for Donovan as he'll have to deal with his highest paid SG and highest paid big man both being marginal players at best. I'm not sure he will be willing to keep Kanter on the bench as much as he should. Donovan does have 9 quality rotation players for a championship caliber team without Kanter and Waiters. KD, Russ, Ibaka, Adams, Augustin, Morrow, McGary, Collison and Singler. So if Kanter does end up refusing to increase his effort it won't be a disaster for the team, although the cap implications down the line might be rough if they can't trade him to a team who wants his offense.

Random, but posted on reddit, Russ is still awesome. And yes, he's much better than people want to give credit for:

https://www.numberfire.com/nba/news/5978/are-we-still-underestimating-russell-westbrook#

To see what KD's return could do for Westbrook, take a look at this table, which shows how Westbrook's play changed while running with various teammates, according to Basketball-Reference.

Code: Select all

          Minutes   FG%   eFG%   PTS/100 Poss   AST/100 Poss
S. Ibaka   1411:32   +.040   +.029   +6.1   -1.7
S. Adams   1228:23   -.002   -.012   +3.2   -3.8
A. Roberson   998:01   +.026   +.012   +8.1   -1.1
D. Waiters   980:33   +.007   +.001   +4.0   -2.3
A. Morrow   778:40   +.014   +.019   +6.7   -0.1
E. Kanter   749:59   -.019   -.028   +1.3   -2.7
K. Durant   713:44   +.042   +.037   +10.6   +1.9
R. Jackson   397:36   +.017   +.001   +6.2   -6.5
K. Singler   345:27   -0.18   -.038   -6.1   -2.6
N. Collison   339:43   +.015   .000   +7.0   +0.3
Average   2302:00   +.014   +.006   +4.7   -1.9

Take a look at how the Westbrook/Durant combo affected Westbrook's play on the floor in 2014-15. It easily exceeded each of the averages and was the only one to add double digits in points on a per-100-possession basis.

So while many basketball brains think Durant will benefit more from a new and improved Westbrook, the numbers say Westbrook should benefit more from a fresh and healthy Durant.

The thing is, I believe Adams is going to be better than both, I'd have most likely slide KD more often to the PF, play Durant, Ibaka, Adams, McGary, plus Collison as bigs, and focus on adding more perimeter talent.

I'd take Adams over Kanter for sure, hopefully they can move Kanter in a couple years when the contract is shorter if needed.

Dang man, we are in the depth of the off season, and I can't believe how many " Durant to Team XYYZ " , are out there.

Its like, a great time to just bury head and get rid of all media .

Meh, I'm more confident than ever he's resigning as of now, and most of the claims are crazy.

At least we haven't heard 'KD to Philly' yet. Of course we've seen KD to the Knicks, which might even be worse.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.
