Around The NBA 2014/2015

Post#1 » by bondom34 » Sun Jun 29, 2014 7:31 am

Figured we could have a thread for non Thunder stuff as well.

Partially because I'm fascinated by this Kidd story, and the fact that the story broke 2 days ago on the Nets board:

Insane.

The comments in that thread before/after the news actually released are hilarious.

Carl with 296 And1's and counting on his first post! :o 530 on only 9 posts. What a legend!

I read through that entire thread. Good stuff. It was also interesting seeing the media's reaction to the story with other people seeming to get credit for breaking it 2 days later.

I gained a lot of respect for Prokhorov not taking that BS from Kidd. He is looking like an entitled fool in all of this.

Jason Kidd is an ego maniac. Give him an inch he's going to try and take the mile. Dallas and Phoenix both washed their hands of him early in his career until he found a situation in Jersey that he could control. No surprise he is ignoring every single convention in organizational dynamics in trying to get more power and do things his way.

The cavs are reportedly considering offering Gordon Hayward a max contract. What the hell is wrong with their front office? You don't pay BMW money for a Chevy Cavalier.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Also, really disappointed Mills has the shoulder injury. I hope the Spurs re-sign him anyway, he seems like a great kid and I like watching him play.. Not to mention he destroyed other teams benches with a torn rotator cuff.

Mills signed a three year contract with SAS. Glad they rewarded him.

Yep, thats the best contract I've seen in free agency.

Fair contract for Kyle Lowry in Toronto (4/48); good deal for both. Clearly wanted to stay. Wonder what they do with Vasquez, now.

C.J. Miles (4/18) seems like a fair deal as well. Athletic prime, coming off his two best seasons. Would have liked him on the Thunder at those numbers.

Jodie Meeks (3/20) seems like an overpay. If he can sustain his offensive production he showed this season (60%+ TS, high-ish usage) maybe he's worth that. D'Antoni caveat.

Ben Gordon (2/9) is puzzling, especially this early. Probably could have picked him up after the moratorium.

Patty Mills (3/12) seems fair. Probably will regress a bit.

Whoever ends up giving Gordon Hayward a max contract will probably regret it.

The Gordon contract is odd because this was the last off-season the Magic could go out and add some players before they have to start paying their young talent. The only players I have heard them linked to were Gordon and Morrow. If it had been a one year deal it would have made some sense as it would have left them money next off-season to chase a max contract. However, making it a two year deal basically means Hennigan is following the blue print he learned from Presti.

I guess we'll see how it works out for them. They should be lottery bound again next year and unless the ping pong balls bounce lucky for them I see them ending up in a similar place to where Pheonix is. A very good young team that needs a big time talent to push them to the next level and finding it very difficult to acquire that talent.

At least make the second year a player option. Or try to negotiate it to a team option. Ben Gordon was literally one of the worst defensive players in the league in 2012-13 and last year he barely played and was hurt half the time.

I think the second year is a team option.

Any thoughts on the LeBron saga? At this point, LeBron's silence is deafening. It seems more and more likely that we'll be seeing him in a Cavs uniform next year. I just can't see him going back to Miami under the circumstances. And I can't see him going to a third team to chase rings. He's too self-aware of his image and legacy. He'll return to Cleveland to try to make up for "The Decision" and Cleveland will instantly be put back into contention.

I could also see someone developing quite the conspiracy theory with Cleveland winning the "fixed" lottery 3 out of the 4 years he was gone.

Personally, I would partly like to see him in Cleveland, but at the same time I don't want Houston getting Bosh, so if he stays that's fine too. I just want it over at this point, there's entirely too much Chris Broussard on my television currently. Its Cleveland or Miami, I agree.

Yeah I definitely didn't want LeBron to end up out West. Houston will be tough, especially if they are able to sign anyone like Bosh. The reported max offer he'd be getting is ridiculous though. I just don't see him as a max player anymore. Either way, we don't need any more competition to even make the Finals. I agree that this has dragged on way too long.

What is Orlando doing? 8 mill per year for Frye after the Gordon contract? What direction are they going... :-?

Just watched a summer league game, and Isiah Thomas loved the Frye deal .

Noone knows what they're doing, this deal has a thread on the trade board and we are all lost.

Tommorow is the big day. Free agents sign, trades happen and lebron and melo make their decisions. The heat board sure are confident that they will get him back. I think lebron hoes to Cleveland and melo stays with the knocks.
