Under the Cap

Per CBA FAQ
"Teams are allowed to offer the players they sign a bonus worth as much as 15% of the total compensation."

"if the team is under the salary cap when the extension is signed, then the signing bonus may be paid before the extension takes effect. If this happens, then the extension is deemed to be a renegotiation and the signing bonus is charged to team salary over both the extension and the remaining seasons of the current contract."

Back in 2011 the Thunder were in a similar situation and Nick Collison received a new contract. What the Thunder did was they paid him a huge signing bonus with his new contract, the signing bonus can hit the current year if the team is under the cap. I am thinking the Thunder might be able to give Dort a nice signing bonus that his the books this year of about $8M, then pay him a contract similar to the one Finney-Smith just signed in Dallas.

I think they limit it to 15% due to the collison deal.

Can we negotiate dort deal already ?

It is 15% now. Collision received half of his contract upfront in 2011.

I wonder is Kenrich could get re-signed as well…
