I was thinking Miami might want to lower the protections on the 25 draft pick, but if it’s fully unprotected it gives them another draft pick to throw in a trade for dame….

It’s not a bad gamble for them. Doubt they’d be bad enough to get a real high pick anyways.

I'm hoping Presti has managed to push it further and fully unprotected

I think it’s really no lose for Miami to unprotect it. If they fall off a cliff so much in 2025 that they were in the lottery, it’s not like they would have likely righted the ship by 2026. Might as well get another draft pick available to trade.

The Miami board is so thirsty for opening up picks that they are saying stuff like, “Maybe the Strus 3-team trade got us 2nds to give to OKC to let us unprotect that pick.” So yeah. Would be kind of wild to get assets for the privilege of removing protection but I get the logic of it.

We totally are facilitating Dame to Miami.

Shoot. Hold ‘em hostage. I don’t want the 2025 unprotected. Give me the 2027 unprotected.

Screw 2027 . Let’s just get 2028 or 2029 instead .

Read on Twitter

imagine giving up value to trade Dieng or Poku after just one season in the NBA (could understand if they are planning to sign two superstars but that's just terrible management)

Our pick better convey because I hate bad teams getting lucky.

Rockets are the new kings. One of russ’ greatest thunder accomplishments was destroying Houston once he got there.

Rockets are unlikely to be bottom 4 bad anymore. Any chance they get the play in though ?

I'm not ruling out the bottom 4 for them. They are full of knuckleheads with no direction (from ownership to management to the players). Play in would be a miracle imo.

Wait for season end when players are injured and rotation get whacked. Even if your prediction is right they will string a bunch of wins then .

I don't understand what the Rockets are doing. I might look deep into for hours but I won't understand it anyway.

It might end up working because they got great talent in Jalen, Jabari and mostly Amen (maybe even Withmore) but they are just doing everything wrong.

The Toronto board mention FFV got more selfish at last season end so if his contract is only guaranteed for 2 years I wonder if it might turn out the same way in Houston.

Edit - whatever brooks was bringing I can see Eason bringing something similar just lower level.

Ok with a backup big in lonsdale though .

Clippers will be good next year. At least not bottoming out. Feel free to trade it away, Sam. You have my blessing.

I’m so confused why y’all think the rockets won’t be garbage.

They have no reason to put in g league players post all stars. That by itself will net them a few wins.

I would assume there won’t be much improvement pre all stars though. So many new pieces .

They are still incentivized to tank, aren’t they?

Not really . 50% chance of keeping their pick even as the worst team and their GM can better sell winning post all stars break as the team finding their groove and getting better .

They are more likely to be bottom 4 than make the play-in.

If I’m a rockets fan, I have very, very low confidence that any of their young prospects are franchise carrying guys. Moving on with what they have is a dubious decision. There isn’t a single thing I’d feel confident about as a rocket fan, from the owner, to the gm, to the flandering coach, to their goober players. It’s question marks right down the line.

Isn't that what happened in the Denver trade? The worst 2024 pick, very easily LAC, for a future top 5 protected pick from Denver. If you were going to rate the picks OKC has for 2024 how would you expect them to go? Houston-Utah-OKC-LAC? OKC-LAC-Utah-HOU? Rating the Houston pick last would indicate you think there is a strong chance they finish with a pick that does not convey. Utah has a chance to finish with a top 10 pick, again, that wouldn't convey. OKC and LAC could be considered their best picks just because they are guaranteed to be theirs, except the one they send to Denver.
