One word, No!

Lol what an awful return for Gay. I mean that's not only a talent drain it doesn't help the Griz financially too.

Memphis trade Gay for Barea, Miller(800K guaranteed), Webster(600K), Picks #13, #18 & your future pick returned.

Wolves trade Williams, Barea, Miller, Webster, pick #18 and future Memphis pick for Gay and Dudley.

Suns trade Dudley and their pick for Williams.

Memphis gets cap relief(almost 8 mil), a good back-up PG with playoff/championship experience(area of need) plus 3 draft picks Basically this trade stabilizes Memphis financially long term.

Hawks would like to see what we can get from Rudy Gay. I was going to proposed Joe Johnson for Rudy Gay but I think it gets a hell No. So what does Memphis fans got in mind if they want to get for Rudy Gay from us?

Al Horford, Jeff Teague (unless Conley is in the trade) and 23rd pick is off-limits.

Many Raps fans seem to think our #8 for Gay would be accepted (we could absorb the salary and you would generate a TPE)...

the logic is that shedding salary is the #1 priority, and as a team that can absorb the whole contract whatever Raps can offer to make it plausible would get it done.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Assuming #8 won't work alone, you can add ot the #8 any other one player on our team other than Valenciunas, Bargnani and Derozan (would probably be acceptable to most Raps fans), and/or next year's pick top 3 protected (probably not acceptable to most Raps fans).

Every team in the top ten draft position would take Rudy Gay as upgrade over there current small forward even if it meant dealing their 1st round selection with the exception of New Orleans who has the #1 selection so your proposed deal should resemble a legitimate effort to beat out the competition.

Secondly multiple picks with a player or players who are upgrades at the backup point guard and backup Center positions is also a plus.

Lastly a team should be able to absorb Rudy's salary and yet send out only 75 - 80% back to the Grizz in return.

The Grizz need to replenish the Bench with players who can play immediately and with rookies who may develop into something later.

This is just criteria you may wish to consider when proposing your deals.

The following are just what a few teams must include in any potential deal or it is a non starter:

Cleveland - #4 and Anderson Verajo

Toronto - #8, Demar Derozan, Ed Davis

Washington - #3, Jan Vesely, Jordan Crawford

Portland - #6 & #11 and Wes Matthews.

Sorry for the joke, but I think you guys are discounting the impact of the new CBA on trades and free agency. Organizations will value staying below the luxury tax more so than they did under the previous agreement. The penalties for exceeding the tax are considerably more severe. Moreover, organizations exceeding the tax in consecutive seasons are penalized at an increasingly higher rate. When value is created in one sector of a market, it is reflected in all sectors. In this case, the increased value of staying below the luxury tax will impact the kind of value you can get in exchange for over paid, while highly skilled, players because potential trading partners will also place a premium on their organization's cap situation.

Pistons fan here...I posted this trade idea a couple of months ago, but I now I took Gordon out of the deal...What do you guys think about this trade involving Gay?
Pistons get: Gay, #25 pick
Grizzlies get: Prince, #9 pick, Bynum(expiring), Maxiell(expiring), #39 pick

Revised my trade

So with the report that the Grizzles what a lottery pick for Gay and they are trying to cut salaries, but still need to take on 12Mil or so, would this get it done?

Bucks get: Gay, #25
Grizzles get: Gooden, Udrih, #12

Grizzles could amnesty Udrih(picked up player option for next year) and have enough money to sign Mayo, Auther and Speights. I know you guys value Gay really high, but you need to realize that your organization is between a rock and a hard place when it comes to cutting salaries to avoid the luxury tax.

No way the Grizz send Gay and the #25 for that.

Gay is not a scrub he just happens to be the asset who can bring the most in return. The Grizz do not have to trade him as we are not over the luxury tax threshold but in an effort to address all of our needs we would do so. ( I hope this explanation helps your offers going forward)

Milwaukee sends - #12, Ekpe Udoh, mike dunleavy, drew gooden
Memphis sends R. Gay

This is the type of offer that would be considered.

As for Detroit, a deal for you is a lot more cumbersome due to the pieces you can offer are all on bad contracts or not significant upgrades to be considered. Your #9 has some value but you have nothing to pare with it that we crave so you are in need of a trade partner to pull off a multi team deal. Sorry!

Very good effort Toronto and we would actually return your call.

Although this is more likely to get it done:

#8, Demar Derozan, Ed Davis, and Linas Kleiza

I think for the Raptors it'll be either 8th pick or Demar but not both.

Btw, here is what Chad Ford thinks

Rhett (Toronto)

You still have Dion Waiters going to the Raptors, Chad. But all we keep hearing up here is that the Raptors are likely to move the pick. Any idea who would be available for the 8th pick in the draft?

Chad Ford (1:15 PM)

I agree that the Raptors are looking to move the pick. They've been trying to package it with another young player like Ed Davis and a vet (Bargnani or Calderon). I think they want a big time player on the wing so that they can lure Steve Nash this summer. The guy most people in the league believe they are after via trade is Rudy Gay. If they stay at 8, they want a player who can get to the basket. Thus ... Waiters at 8.

Understood!

But a negotiation is both parties looking out for their interest.

Their is competition for a talent like Rudy Gay and your team would not want him unless you thought you could build around his talents. We know it is going to hurt including Derozan but to get it done and not lose out that is the costs.

Rudy for #8 would need to include Derozan to work for me. YMMV, of course.

From Toronto:

Take Bargnani off our hands, please!

Basically everyone on the roster is in play. There are no untouchables in Toronto. None.

Now it depends on if Memphis wants a straight salary dump, or expiring contracts.

A third team may be required to get a fair deal done.

Figured I would throw this out there since the Griz are looking to stay under the cap?

This is what the trade looks like:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=bqc4vpy

Basically This is the break down:

GRIZ In: Marvin Williams (10 pts, 5.6 rbd, and defensive star), Odom, Beaubouis, Mavs (and Possibly ATLs) 1st Round Pick + 3 Mil (for Odom Buyout)
GRIZ Out: Rudy Gay

PHX In: Josh Smith, Dominic Jones
PHX Out: Marcin Gortat

ATL In: Rudy Gay, Vince Carter, 2 Mil (Cater Buyout),
ATL Out: Josh Smith and Marvin Williams, Possibly 1st Round Pick

DAL In: Marcin Gortat
DAL Out: Odom, Beaubouis, Dominic Jones, Vince Carter

Why this works?

GRIZ: Exchanges Gay for Williams (better defensive and average offensively SF) at half the price, Beaubois added to replace Mayo as 6th man at 1/3 of the price, and can buyout Odom no problem (3 Mil is the cost) to avoid Luxury tax and can actually tender Speighs and sign someone in 2012 FA, plus potentially TWO 1st round draft pick which are more valuable with the new CBA

PHX: Gets a young allstar in Josh Smith potentially to build around in the future and to entice Nash to stay now, (will also need to amnesty Childress, which prbly was in the plans already) and has tons of cap space to work with this summer

ATL: Gets young Allstar at SF position in exchange for Josh Smith (unhappy and most likely to leave in 2013) and unloads Marvin Williams contract, gets Vince Carter for 2 year 2 Mill Contract (can still play in limited role) and 2 Mil to buy him out if dont want him

DAL: Adds a very solid center who they covet in Gortat, and gets rid of as many contracts not named Dirk on the team to sign DWill (will also prbly amnesty Haywood)

Your trade does not seem to work and more importantly it is still based upon the premise that Memphis wants to get under the CAP which is not true. They want to improve the team and avoid the luxury tax and that is a big difference.

Here is a revised deal involving the teams you selected. Not included are the #13 & #25 going to Memphis.

Return to Memphis Grizzlies
