Michael Dixon (former Big 12 Defensive POY) was just cleared to play by the NCAA. That gives the Tigers 4 senior guards. Next year should be something else.

They're going to have a great run. I think they might be able to go with a 4 guard lineup and put Shaq Goodwin in at times. They would give up a lot of height, but I think it's a possibility.

Hopefully, this is the year that our incoming class (and whole team for that matter) lives up to expectations. Three consecutive years starting in the top 25 and then finishing out of the top 25 is enough IMO.

Last year's team was clearly top 25 though. They were really good at season's end, but just met a bad matchup in the NCAAs.

Based on the structure of the Tigers, how do you gauge on how their season will go from now til March?

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - For the second time in his career, University of Memphis' Joe Jackson has been named to the John R. Wooden Award Presented by Wendy's Preseason Top-50, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Tuesday. It is the third-consecutive season a Tiger has been on the Wooden Award's preseason list, as Jackson and Will Barton were 2011-12 candidates and Adonis Thomas a 2012-13 nominee.

Did anybody checkout last night's game vs. Oklahoma? Although it was one game, Marcus Smart is not a joke. He really put on a clinic and looks to show the NBA why he's worth being in the top ten in the draft.

To me the Tigers need games like these to show what they have in terms of talent and how they compare vs. the national circuit. With their history of losing games to teams like these, could it be fair to say they may continue their losing streak against top quality teams?

I mean you can't base their season off of one game, but I think coaching (or lack thereof) has everything to do with it. The Tigers are extremely talented this year.

How can you definitively say that though? We lost every time we played against a good team. Being able to dominate powderpuff teams and then losing to quality teams does not a top 25 team make IMO.

Because I watched them many times last year, and they had a really bad matchup. Michigan St was everything that they are with better coaching and more refined games. They were just as physical, had good guard play, and were extremely hungry.

Schedule means something, but it is unfair to say either way how Memphis would have played against top flight competition all year. So far this year, they had one major setback, but appear to be on track right now and have faced better competition. The coaching really isn't there, and hasn't been.

Josh Pastner isn't known for his X's and Os'. He's mainly getting his wins with the help from his assistant coaches perhaps. Although they are 13-4 for the season. Keep in the team is really struggling from the field(shooting 47% from the field and 30% from beyond the arc). Where these individual struggles are coming from, I don't know. They recently fired their strength and conditioning coach as of two weeks ago. Speculations suggest overworking the team in workouts and could explain some issues of being tired and maybe lack of energy when they play some teams.

To me, I feel that playing in this new conference is a good thing so the Tigers wil have to make some adjustments in terms of selecting more quality players as they realize that this is no longer the pedestrian C-USA. This is the American Conference and it will get tougher.

They have a really talented club right now and are super experienced. Geron Johnson is an NBA player.

Horrible coaching job. He had an extremely talented club this year and had no idea how to make the adjustments necessary to win big time games.

FWIW, I watched former Tigers in summer league and they looked significantly better. I think it has to do with system and coaching - they were not properly used. Chris Crawford was a primary summer league weapon. Geron Johnson looked great as a ball hawk.

Crawford was solid in summer league. He was picked up by the Cavs for training camp. So I hope he makes better of his opportunities. Still has to work on his consistancies to be better. Geron Johnson might have a shot at training camp as well. Best case scenario for these two looks like either D-Leagues or overseas ball. Either way, I wish them the best of luck and success.

Watched Memphis briefly today and they are a more balanced, but far less talented team. Shaq Goodwin has not emerged as much as I had expected. Nichols has been solid though. Thoughts on the team this year?

This team is in search of a new identity. Some key turnovers from last season has lead to new players both freshmen and sophomores to find the necessary chemistry to blend in together. It's likely to take a minute for these adjustments to gel for these guys. The Tigers also had to suspend Shaq Goodwin for a couple of games due to violation of team rules and now Kuron Iverson for violation of team rules. Iverson also made some comments concerning Coach Pastner. Tiger Nation aren't taking this well. Tiger Nation here in Memphis are not known for their patience. Memphis is a hardcore basketball city The pressure to be great, make the tourney, and bring top round recruits, is of extreme importance to a nation like this. So with the issues ongoing in the Tigers Den with lack of leadership and sense of accountability, something or someone has to step up and make some changes. Enough is enough.

Looks like the Tigers will lose another one. SF/PF Austin Nichols will seek a transfer from the U of M.
