Realistically, when you look at all the trades involving All-Star level players in the last 2 years ( with KG, AI and subsequently Kidd )......all trades involved the same type of players/trading assets that the Grizzlies got in return.

The Grizzlies traded Gasol for a huge Expiring Contract, a prospect and 2 future 1st round draft picks. Admittedly, I think that comparing this deal to the deals that KG and AI netted the team trading him.....it would seem that they got the lesser of all the trades.

The question that I have is why the Grizzlies accepted a trade like this well before the Trade Deadline and why they didn't force the Lakers to take on Cardinal. Obviously we will never know why it happened this way....but we also don't know if other teams ( as they got closer to the Trade deadline ) would have gotten desperate to offer up the same type of trade that the Lakers gave up ( which isn't that much ) while taking on Cardinal.

Excellent point and valid question. The answer, IMO, is because our GM sucks at GMing...

Knowing what we know now - or at least are told - the trade wasn't horrible. However, the Grizz still pulled the trigger too quickly.

Kobe calls the trade a "donation" to the Lakers & I think most NBA followers would agree with that.

Does the Grizz owner get a championship ring when the lakers win it all this year?

No, just the satisfaction that he somehow contributed to another team winning.....

Too bad he will be remembered as a consummate loser.....correction.....he won't be remembered at all.

The word in Chicago was that Wallace & Paxson had agreed on a trade - but the owner didnt like it & made the deal with the Lakers.

Not only didnt the Bulls have a chance to counter-offer but apparently no other teams were given a chance either.

I wouldn't be shocked if that's true.
