After nine years with the Tigers program, U of M coach Tommy West was fired today after a morning talk with athletic director R.C. Johnson. West's best years came during the DeAngelo Williams era in 2003 and 2004 where he collected a record of 17-8 during those years. He also took the Tigers to five Bowl games during his nine years at the helm. These accomplishments were overshadowed by the team's struggles to win games from season to season. Which lead to fans losing interest in the football team and inevitably the firing of Tommy West.

Truth be told, it was a long time coming. Constant struggles with luring some quality talent to the squad was another issue the Tigers had going against them. West at times looked like a deer caught in headlights during press conferences in which they lose their games. How can you guide a team if their is no destination to drive it towards. Now that West been given the boot, who will be the next coach to attempt to turn this program around for the better?

Two or three years too late. For replacements, I like Tommy Tuberville - but he's not showing up on any lists of candidates being considered.

Agree with jefe - although, you had to love Tommy's parting shots.

The guy did let loose everything he held on the inside for a long time. For the first time ever, he ended a conference out with a bang.
