70s/90s/10s Split Eras Draft - Draft Thread

Post#1 » by 8on » Sun Mar 19, 2017 3:35 pm

Draft Rules:

1. Every player from the 1969-70 to the 1978-79 season AND 1989-90 season to the 1998-99 season AND 2009-10 season to 2015-16 season will be available to be drafted.

2. The winner of the draft will be determined by way of a 16-team playoff tournament (see playoff rules).

3. You will be required to draft a total of 8 players. There will be no trading. However, you can trade your draft pick position with somebody else before the draft begins if you wish to do so.

4. You must state the specific season of the player you choose to draft. You don't have to do it right away when you make your selection but you must state it on your team roster page before the playoff tournament begins.

5. Your team will be allowed a combined total of 90.0 FGA corresponding with the specific seasons indicated for each player.

6. We will be doing a modified snake draft. It will go like this: ABBABBAB

7. Players will get a maximum of a 2-hour window to make their selection when they are on the clock. If a participant does not make a pick within 2 hours, he can make his pick whenever. A participant who has back to back or consecutive picks will have both full windows to make their picks. A participant who misses 2 consecutive picks may be replaced. Also, if you know ahead of time that you won't be available to make your pick on the clock then please PM your selection to me or another participant...I strongly urge this so that the draft can move in a timely manner.

8. The clock will be turned off between 12 midnight and 9 AM EDT.

9. After you have made your draft selection, please quote and/or PM the person that goes after you so they will know that it is their turn and they are on the clock, which will start their 2 hour period.

10. Clock will start Monday, 3/20 at 9 AM EST.

11. ABA players are allowed.

Man, I actually wanted to avoid picking 1st in this one. People will expect me to pick a certain someone here, but I'm going in a different direction...

LeBron James

Had a feeling this was going to be my option. Not super thrilled about it. Oh well, at least it's something new.

MJ.

Steph Curry

Feels pretty bad missing out on Dirk and Robinson and my top 8 in general. If I say I'm going to lose this one will I make the finals again?

Alright, I went back and forth on this a lot, had another name typed in here but ultimately I've gotta go:

Shaq. It's hard to pass on even Orlando Shaq, in 95 he led them to the finals and was an unstoppable offensive force and no slouch defensively (when he tried at least.) Heavily considered going with more flexibility that another choice offers but Shaq's just too dynamic not to take.

If Poop didn't take Durant or one of two other guys, this would have been a different pick. But alas, I can't risk missing out on one of the guys at this position. While the other one was one of the greatest players of the 70s, I am going to go with a guy who is an elite defensive wing who also shot 44.3 % from 3 in the chosen season, providing proven spacing that the other guy is lacking slightly. Oh, and he is significantly cheaper as well. I will choose Kawhi Leonard.

Screw it. Who cares about positions, right? I am going to take a guy at the same listed position as the first guy I took. This guy is BY FAR the best player available, and I can't possibly pass him up, even if I had him in the last game and either him or Kawhi have to play slightly out of position. Watching Kawhi play, I think he could play 2-4, so I should be alright.

I am going to pick the DOCTOR, Julius Erving.

Thought about getting cute here, but can't pass up the 13th highest peak of all time according to RealGM and probably the greatest basketball player in the history of western civilization:

Bill Walton
