Wow. This is Cool. Coaches ranked statistically.

Post#1 » by jinxed » Sat Jan 22, 2011 3:47 am

By Adjusted plus/minus over the last 5 years.

http://stats-for-the-nba.appspot.com/coaches

Stan Van Gundy, clearly the best coach in the NBA.

I've always thought this, look how great the Magic are despite having a worse roster than any of the top teams...

Adjusted Plus/Minus..the difference is that they consider the coach the sixth man on the court..so it's plus/minus for the coach...adjusted for how good the players are on his team and how good the opponents are..

@ the OP, Seriously, you're getting mad about a list that no one knows the measurements for (please tell me I'm just reading into your post--I can hardly tell when people are being sarcastic or serious without joking). If that's the case, find the coach you think is the best and make a stat for all the coaches that will clearly give your favorite coach the advantage. Case close. :) I'm sure no one cares or even understand this list.

Go Magic, Go Dwight, Go Vuc, Go Paolo, Go Keegan :)

So basically it makes no sense...

I wasn't being sarcastic.

I agree with this result.

I really believe Stan Van Gundy is the best coach in the NBA.

Coaching isn't exactly tough with a guy like Dwight on your team.

A list where Sam Mitchell, Tony DiLeo, and Vinny Del Negro are ranked as better coaches than Doc Rivers, Phil Jackson, and Rick Adelman clearly has no substance whatsoever.

adjusted +/- is a very sketchy stat even for players. it's building a very complicated stat from an already shaky foundation of stats. it might be nice if everyone played a million minutes and spent a million on the bench, but by trying to take away noise it probably puts more in

So basically you're just trying to use this nonsense stat that doesn't make any sense to come to the conclusion that Stan is the best coach in the NBA.

is the stat nonsense because you aren't bright enough to understand it? Or is it nonsense because you don't like the result?
