Fangraphs like NBA site?

Post#1 » by raptorforlife88 » Thu Mar 14, 2013 7:09 pm

Fangraphs has become a pretty well known website in baseball for statistical analysis, that goes beyond just providing advanced stats. They have daily articles and their measures for WAR and other stats have become fairly mainstream at this point. There's plenty of advanced stats in basketball but I haven't been able to find a similar site that provided those sorts of daily articles and analysis. Since so much of ESPN's content is behind a paywall, it seems like there's a definite gap.

I was wondering if there was any site that provided that sort of content.

Fangraphs is much better than any kind of NBA comparable. Nothing like it yet exists for the NBA.

That's a pity. Some of the better statistical minds in basketball would do well if they put together site like that. There's definitely some good potential there.

Now that's the difference between first and last place.

EVERYTHING in baseball is quantifiable by stats. You can tell who won and who played well simply by looking at the box score. Statistically speaking, basketball is much more complex. While I find advanced stats and analytics fascinating they can never define a basketball game the way stats define a baseball game.

that's just being unimaginative. anything can be quantified. as long as you can define how to measure it, you can quantify it.

all factors in basketball can be quantified. all you need to do is define them and then measure them.
