Shot rotation vs percentage

Post#1 » by Def Leppard » Mon Feb 17, 2014 7:59 pm

Curious if there is data collected on the average amount of rotation (spin) on someone's shots and how that effects their field goal percentage.

From he looks of it a guys like Curry, Korver and Reddick have more rotation of their shots than others. Of course, if their ball has more backspin the ball will stay in the air or "float" longer but could this aspect of a players technique help account for their consistency?

Would love to see data on this but it may be a long shot.

I don't think we have stats on shot rotation.

But common knowledge dictates that shot rotation/spin can help your shot. See Dirk's jumper and Irving's layups.
