thx. i'll be watching tonight.
even if oak hill and miler grove is the more high profile matchup, im actually looking forward to seeing the 1st and 3rd games more.

prospects i'll have my eye on: julius randle, emmanuel mudiay, mickey mitchell, marcus smart, kevin zabo.

Prestonwood:
-Julius Randle was slightly disappointing, but i see the reason for the hype. he's very physical, more athletic than i thought, but struggled at times against austin's length. good ball-handler in the open court. can rise and adjust his shot mid-air. good form on his jump shot but he shoots it a bit too flat and hard. the further the shot is the harder and flatter his shot is. did not like his effort on defense though outside of a couple of blocked shots. doesnt have great length for his size, but he does show flashes of SF skills, in particular his ball-handling and first step.

-Mickey Mitchell was impressive for a freshman (even as an older freshman). kid just has a natural feel for angles, whether it be passing angles, attacking off the bounce, or attacking the glass. he's quicker than i thought off the bounce, has a great weak hand and good form on his jumper. he did a bit too much standing and watching on both ends of the floor. kinda understandable on the offensive end since he takes a back seat to all the upperclassmen, but on defense he was repeatedly caught on screens and beat off the dribble by mudiay. dunno if that's fair to say though because mudiay was killing everyone off the bounce. he'll have to work on his craftiness and drawing contact in the paint because he's not a great vertical athlete. he had a nice dunk that followed a nasty crossover, but he too struggled getting off a good shot around the rim.

Grace Prep:
-Isaiah Austin definitely looked improved, but im still not high on his future prospects. he's playing a bit tougher, playing in the paint more, showing more post moves and ability to get his shot off in the paint. he still drifted a little bit on offense but not as much as before. he's always been an awesome shot blocker and showed that ability this game. kids at this level just arent used to playing against his length. i cant shake the feeling that this kid is soft though. his frame isnt great, doesnt have great athleticism and i think he'll always be a finesse type. reminds me of a combination channing frye/ andray blatche with better shot blocking ability.

-Emmanual Mudiay was the most impressive player to me in this game, and probably the whole night. He has excellent size and an advanced feel for playmaking. he has a quick, long, powerful first step and great change of direction but is very economical with his moves. IOW, he only makes moves when he has to. when he gets in the paint he has excellent finishing ability . has the ability to finish over or around defenders with soft touch. he already has a good feel for pick n roll basketball. doesnt go too quickly off the pick, drives at a good pace, keeps his head up and maintains peripheral vision off the pick. obviously has very good chemistry with Austin from playing with him yr round. he threw a couple of seemingly blind lobs to exactly where Austin was. he's more of a scorer and playmaker than distributor at this point, but the kid is obviously smart enough to become a better distributor. needs to work on his jumper though. shot poorly from the line, but i dont think he's that bad of a FT shooter. they were all on line, just hit the back iron.
has to improve the trajectory and touch on his shot as it's a bit flat.

i'll have more on the other games later.

Oak Hill:
the only two guys i really paid attention to were tyler lewis and d'vauntes smith-rivera. jordan adams showed some nice things like straight line drives, a floater game and good touch on his jumper but i wasnt watching him that closely.

-D'vauntes Smith-Rivera remind me of Dion Waiters out of 'Cuse. physically strong combo guard who's just shifty enough to get past his man or score in the open court. he's not a vertical athlete but he knows how to use his body and is very clever. nice spin moves and has the ability to pull up off the dribble. he looks like a 3-4 yr guy.
-Tyler Lewis is certainly entertaining to watch, the most entertaining player out of all 3 games. amazing creativity and vision for his age, but he's far from being all flash. he makes flashy passes because he has to. if he isnt the best passer in his class, then he's top 2 easily. reminds me of Luke RIdnour at the same stage. his shot is ugly but it goes in and he has 3 pt range. he also showed a surprising ability to get into the lane and make shots. he's very clever in the paint area with floaters and had one impressive wrap around up n under. he'll be one of the more entertaining freshman to watch next yr, but because of his tiny size i think he'll be another 4 yr player. it'll be interesting to watch the 'pack next yr because Rodney Purvis is going there next yr and is trying to be a PG for the next level.

Miller Grove:
-Tony Parker looks much improved from last yr. he's still a little heavy but he's doing more work on the interior. his feel for the post is much improved. he's got nice drop steps and touch around the paint and he still has that deadly mid-range jumper. he showed better bounce since the last time i seen him and finished with authority. he doesnt quite have the feel for passing out of the post that someone like sullinger had as a prep. i think he's further along than sully was defensively and looks to have a slightly better wingspan. he has to continue to reshape his body and play big to avoid becoming another renardo sidney.
