News straight from Wilbon - he's playing here in DC this coming season.

Yeah I heard he was coming here to play. Sounds good to me. Can he be any worse than McGee? I'm kidding of course....or maybe I'm not.

I will take this report over anything Woebon has to say until I read otherwise.

Mike Lee

During the interview with reporters, Seriphan was wearing a Bulls cap, but talking about how excited he was to be in Washington. And from what I hear, he really, really wanted to play for the Wizards. Tommy Sheppard and Milt Newton went to see Seriphan in Treviso, Italy a few weeks ago and came away impressed. Seriphan came away thinking that the Wizards really wanted him.

Unable to workout because of a minor knee injury, he visited five teams in six days last week, including Washington, Oklahoma City and Cleveland (which I heard was looking to get the 20th pick in order to take him). But I heard that when he visited Washington, Seriphan told Grunfeld, "You have to take me! You have to take me." From witnesses in the room, Grunfeld apparently smiled and told him he might be able to work something out.

Seriously, I bet OKC was going to grab him. They traded up to 18th and then dumped the pick to the Clippers. If they needed anything, it was another big and they already did well with Ibaka (you know they didn't need a guard or a wing).

An interesting item from the Lee piece, Seriphan doesn't really speak English, he had to have a translator. We will have to hire a translator, this should make the work-outs and coaching interesting.

I don't think Ovechkin(sp?) spoke much English when he started with the Caps. Maybe the Wizards should pry Peitrus from the Magic to serve as translator :)

The more we hear, the more it seems like EG knew exactly what he was doing in this draft.

Consider all the incentive for OKC to grab Seraphin:

the first 16 picks were obvious and I don't think anyone was expecting any of those guys to slip aside from maybe Babbit, who's not really what they need.

Seraphin visited them.

Serge Ibaka panned out for them, who's also "sorta French" (African style French); same pattern as Seraphin.

The last thing they needed was a wing and every wing was still on the board.

A 'stash pick" would have been perfect for them as their roster is absolutely jammed up with Rookie contracts. There's just no room right now. Edit to add --> There were rumors that they were going with a Euro-stash big at 21 before they moved up to 11. The rumors were Tibor, I believe, but he was still on the board.

The Kicker: Immediately after our pick, they traded the 18th to the Clippers for a future pick. They had just acquired the 18th that same day.

Who were they expecting to slip, I ask? What were they going to do? Everyone on the board was predictable except Seraphin.

I put the odds as being very high that they were going to take Seraphin 18th.

i agree. DX article says he's around 6-9 w/o shoes, large wingspan, 268 lbs. sounds like a large, banger, defensive center. wants to come over now. i like the pick. soccer players = good feet. good thing for a big man.

Almost totally unrelated, almost totally irrelevant to this thread, but did you know Cousins doesn't even have a license? That guy would need a chauffeur just to get to practices and games on time.

Great point. Looks like Ernie snatched him right of Presti's clutches.

Easy now Rico, Presti was executive of the year and his team will be a serious contender in the West next season, what's Ernie done lately?

I don't think Booker was a terrible pick but based on the last 2 drafts it would be:

It's not necessarily a big deal. A lot of people in DC don't have cars, because the subway gets them where they want. MCI Center is right at the Gallery Place metro station.

I find that hard to believe. That contradicts what the player himself has said.

Not only that -- EG said himself that whoever he drafts is playing this year. No stashing.

^ I hope that's accurate, I'll be uber-frustrated if we have to wait on him. Get the young pup over here playing and practicing with NBA level talent so he keeps developing.

So, off the front page of Bullets Forver, there's the Mike Lee quote...

Seriphan will not participate in summer league as he recovers from his right knee injury suffered a few weeks ago. He might not come to Washington until he receives his work visa in about a month or two, according to Seriphan's agent, Bouna N'Diaye.

So, do you get a work visa if you're not playing for the Zards next year? maybe, but hopefully all the dot-dot-dot's spelled out this far mean that he's coming over.
