Joe Wiz is listed more than once. I wouldn't have noticed but for one of
his predictions being the same as mine.

My prediction was actually 39. I just said "all in for 43 wins" as a joke about the team's goal.

Sigh.

Well, it looks like I have no chance at this contest unless, on 40 separate occasions during the season, I deliver salmonella-laced food to the visiting team's hotel.

Boy, do I feel stupid. I updated the list, pointed out that somebody else was listed twice, and didn't get my old prediction off of it. You can see on p. 29 that 48-34 was my official update. (I didn't dig back through to find when I posted my earlier 43-39).

Edit: I could also feel stupid for not having picked, say, 28-54, which is looking more realistic now, but 48-34 is where I left it before the cutoff time.

We lost Okafor which looked like it would tank the season, and we have now replaced him with Gortat. What I don't get is why are all the predictions jumping so much? Last year, Gortat wasn't even as good as Okafor. Even if we assume Gortat plays with something approaching his form from 2 years ago, it's still only a modest upgrade over Okafor. We are still a team that is an injury away from mediocrity. If Beal, Nene or Gortat gets hurt, we will suffer. If Wall gets hurt, we are toast.

I'm sticking with 44 wins. When healthy, I think we can play like a 48-50 win team, but I'm expecting injuries to set us back a bit.

I had us at 38 wins, assuming Beal missed 20 games or so, Nene missed 30 games or so.

Then Okafor went down, and I thought I had revised my win prediction downward but apparently I never got around to it. I vaguely recall thinking we would be lucky to get 35 wins.

Now we are closer to the season and Beal has been pretty good, so that makes me a tad more optimistic than I was, and we've got Gortat. Gortat obviously isn't going to be the defensive stalwart that Okafor was, but I think as long as he plays smart we'll be ok. And Gortat's a smidge better than Okafor offensively. So I'm back to 38 wins plus another four games of optimism due to Beal. Now, I'm also thinking, Gortat being available right from the beginning of the season might allow us to monitor Nene's minutes, plus Nene looks ok in the preseason, so I'm less worried about lingering health issues from him. So that makes me think well shoot, why can't we play a whole season like we did during that one stretch when we were on a 50 win pace? Why not indeed! 47 wins!

Sigh. I suck.

Could someone delete me at 43? That wasn't a prediction that was a joke. My actual prediction was 39 which certainly isn't looking good either.

Starting Sat, Nov 16, the Wizards schedule get a lot easier over the following 13 games.

A home game win against BRK would do them good to help them get through the next 4 games .. BRK, OKC, DAL, and SA

They have gotten off to such bad starts over the last 4 years that its easy to forget just how bad it is to lose 3 games in a row for a team and just how important every single win really is. 0-3 is actually a lot of ground to make up.

2-6 going into the Cleveland game Nov 16th would be a lot better then 1-7

Now if they beat BRK at home they should be set up nicely to take one in Dallas leaving them 3-5, going into the easier 13 game stretch.

Basically, by the end of Dec, we should have a pretty good idea of what they will be for the season.
