Grade the Wizard's Draft
C-
Alright, barring a miracle at the 56 slot, we already know what we're getting.
Grade the draft based on our GM's performance, not that we lucked into the #1 pick.
I'll start.
If you'd told me at the beginning of the day we'd come out with Wall, Seraphin and Booker, I would have felt okay about it. Booker is a bit old for my liking, but he seems like a good tough guy to build an atmosphere on a young team. Seraphin is potential but I like him but then the talls and the whites.
The problem is that we did not move up to 12-14 where there were super value picks, and we paid too much for the players we did draft. I think we'll have enough cap flexibility remaining that paying too much won't bite us in the ass in terms of acquiring talent, but I will say I'm glad its not my money. This is also based on the fact that it looks like Melo will resign--if he doesn't resign, tying our hands like this would turn into a disaster.
All in all, I'm not unhappy with the players, I just think we wasted a big opportunity. Voting C on the poll, but this is a lower end C.

OKC traded 21+26 for Mo Peterson+11. We couldn't match that. 21+26>30+35.

Poor Wall what could he be thinking. I'm sure he was hoping the Wiz would at least draft 1 of his teammates. I'm sick and tired of the management of this team. At least for tonight I'm GONE.

We could have trade 17 + 30. Had we done that and selected one of the guys I wanted, I would have given the draft an A. Had we done that to draft Cole Aldritch, I would have given the same C-. I don't get the OKC move when they could have drafter Patterson and signed Haywood...

Incomplete. Grading a draft immediately after it's done is inaccurate.

Fair enough. Ernie's grade for last year's draft-epic fail

Honestly, I would have given up McGee, the 17th, and the 30th to pick Cousins at 5.
I would have grabbed somebody like Ebanks at 35.

I hate these threads. Nobody has any idea how well we drafted. It's impossible to know.
The only thing we can say is that Booker was probably available at #30 so we effectively wasted our #35 pick to move up. Other than that, I grade it an Incomplete.

Of course you would and so would everyone else on this board, but there is a snowballs chance the Kings would have done it. No sense in getting too upset about this one not happening.

Considering the pieces that GMEG had, the moves other teams made, the moves that the Wizards could have made instead.

Re: Grade the Wizard's Draft
Alabi and Robinson are still on the board. If we get one of them at #56 and Seraphin plays in the NBA next season, I'll feel a little better.
I'm not liking the Booker pick. He's small and I didnt think he had a very good offensive game the few times I saw him. He mostly scored on garbage points and gimme's. He could be a decent player, but again, I think his size hurts him in that regard as well. An undersized PF who isnt producing on the boards or scoring efficiently eventually becomes a negative due to the defensive mismatch. He could be a great help defender, too bad that'll further hurt the rebounding.

I'm in a weird position of actually somewhat liking our new players, while feeling totally underwhelmed in how we went about getting them. I'm hoping I'll feel okay about things in a day or two.

Re: Grade the Wizard's Draft
A bit disappointing but a standard EG draft so what more could we expect. Reaching for a foreign player with low bball iq and then grabbing an undersized power forward.
Really disappointed that after overpaying for hinrich and seeing that OKC took aldrich we didnt move heaven and hell to move up and snag patterson. it's also a shame that we could have drafted alabi (and gotten a freakin full sized center) had we not made the minnesota trade.
oh well, we'll survive and other options might not have been available but if seraphim is anything like pechorov it's time to sharpen the tips of the pitchforks.

Taking Wall out of the draft because grandmothers would have picked him.

Seriously. Something about drafting 3 PF's doesn't seem like following the OKC plan.

I had my concerns at a certain point, but Hamady N'diaye pretty well made up the ground for me.
