Not that it matters much after two games but Washington has to be dead last, or close to last in overall defense rank. This reminds me a lot of Denver's Shannahan defenses.
I don't think you could be anymore wrong.
This is no way a terrible D. Just wait till they get their grove going.
Add a top notch noise tackle and get Moore back at free safety and this is a top 5 defense.
Also, we need to let Chris Wilson do his thing.
Are you kidding me? Defenses are judged by how many yards are accrued against them, which to many is a bit unfair because games aren't won and loss on yardage totals. Others suggest a defense should be judged on how many points are scored against them, which to many is unfair because what happens when the offense fumbles the ball deep in their own territory. I think one of the best indicators of a good defense is if they have the ability to get off the field. Yesterday Houston had six drives of seven plays or more and they had 9 drives where they gained at least 40 yards. Fourty yards typically puts the opoposition at least in fringe scoring distance.
In addition, 80% of all of Houston plays were either 1st or 2nd downs. Washington had a difficult time just getting Houston in 3rd down situations. Houston sliced and diced the skins defense without any resistance.
Lastly, once they add a top notch DT they'll be a top five defense? Once the Wiz trade Gilbert for Kobe and McGee for Bynum they'll be a championship contender. It's more difficult to find a top notch DT for the 3-4 than it is to find a franchise QB. There are only five high quality NT's in the game: Raji, Aubrayo Franklin, Nagta, Wilfork, and Ratliff. They don't just grow on trees.
It's premature to say the defense is just awful, but statistically they are pathetic and they certainly don't pass the eyeball test.
