It was discovered by a researcher before any hostile virus writers did. However, it is now public knowledge, so people all over the world will be trying to take advantage of it now. There is nothing you can do about it - websites have to implement changes to fix the problem. So basically if you enter your credit card information into a website that hasn't implemented the fix, you're screwed.
All the big banks and paypal and amazon and netflix and so on have implemented the necessary change - I would avoid little pizza joints and stuff for now.
Swami, here is a tool where you can check if a website is vulnerable.

Thanks, Pine. fwiw here's what it says about realgm:
Unable to get HTTP headers for www.realgm.com
Site: www.realgm.com
Server software: Not reported
Was vulnerable: Possibly (might use OpenSSL, but we can't tell)
SSL Certificate: Unable to extract SSL information.
Does https://www.realgm.com work for you? This tool is only for HTTPS sites.

Right, so this only affects sites that begin with https ("secure sites" that need to use openSSL).
When you log into, say, amazon.com or visa.com, you'll notice the URL begins with https and probably has an image of a "lock" next to it depending on your browser.
A site like realGM wouldn't be affected because it doesn't use openSSL.

.
More important than a mere random thread, but I didn't want to clutter the page up with a new thread:
Get well soon, Craig Sager. (Sager will begin treatment for acute leukemia tomorrow and will miss the entirety of the NBA playoffs). We'll miss you and your crazy suits (and your courtside reporting, which is good but sometimes people don't notice because you're the guy in the suit).
While you're out, know that you're missed. And you get your butt healthy real quick and on TNT's 2014-2015 opening night telecast, I expect to see you in a purple, polka-dotted suit.
You're in our thoughts and prayers.

No easy way to transition back to random trivial stuff...but...
I tried Taco Bell breakfast today. Pretty much only because their Ronald McDonald commercials are so genius. Wasn't expecting much, but not bad. Their mini Cinnabon delights are pretty good, like stuffed donut holes.

Pop's interview with Craig Jr was one of those great non-sports moments in sports that makes you realize there is some sense in being a sports fan. Loved the way the network treated the whole thing. Get well soon, Craig Sr.

Good day yesterday. Went to the Nats game and watched us win in walk off fashion, then of course the Wiz winning Game 1.

Two random, related uniform thoughts.
(1) I'd really like to see an alternative uni, using blue as the base color. You could really just flip the red and blue on our road uni's.
(2) I wish the blue in our uni's was closer to the old Bullets blue -- more of a royal that you see in Duke and Kentucky uni's. Looks super sharp with the red and white like in American U's jersey's:

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
I remember the first time I discovered the wonders of RealGM was when we landed Larry Hughes in '02 and I was perusing the internet reading articles. I've been a part time poster and full time lurker ever since.
With the 24/7 world that is youth ministry I don't get to post a fraction as much as I'd like.
Most of the time I hide in the shadows, thinking I'm unseen...
...and then I just noticed this "users browsing this forum" on the bottom of the page.
I'VE BEEN EXPOSED.
I guess I'll have to post more often?
In the meantime, know I've loved reading all your thoughts and comments over the years.

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
anybody know - I can't find it anywhere - what the schedule is for the 2nd round
of the playoffs?
Does the starting date vary depending on whether IND/ATL goes 7 games?
Just thinking - I'm having a significant surgery on May 5th (Monday) and will
not be particularly mobile for at least a few days. We could even start the
series at home, so it might be difficult for me to go.
Also - Nivek hasn't been posting much, at least that I've seen.

Spoiler:
The music competition went well, by the way. He was the first euphonium player they accepted into the finals. The other finalists were outstanding (2 cellos, 2 violins, 4 vocalists, a harp and a piano), and...he became the first brass player to ever place in their competition. He took 2nd behind the piano player.
Gotta head back up in a few weeks for the performance.

Good to hear - congrats on your sons accomplishments to both you/wife and him.
And to answer my own question about the schedule - they haven't figured it out yet.
Just got an email from the Wizards re pre-sale tickets to ssn tix holders (one reason
tix got so expensive). Not sure if I'll buy any extras or not. If I sell one game again I'll
be doing fine with that. Plus I'm in a training class tomorrow when the pre-sale begins.
Could be complicated.

This is a rough guess of mine:
If the Hawks beat the Pacers tomorrow, then Game 1 will be Saturday in DC, with Game 2 being Monday. Miami vs. Toronto/Brooklyn would be Sunday should the series end Friday. Game 2 of that series would be Tuesday.
If the Hawks/Pacers goes 7, I would say the Wiz would play Game 1 Monday. Nets/Raps goes 7 and Game 1 vs. Miami would be Tuesday.
