From what I hear, he was in his 60s and in poor health. RIP, dude.

Didn't interact with him directly as I can recall. I like his signature quote:

I'm sure Tommy Udo 6 imparted a lot of wisdom and will be missed. RIP

Sorry to hear that. RIP.

Been a long time since I was able to stay interested in the O's or that
interested in baseball on the whole. Not so this season. Buck Showalter
has worked magic. So how 'bout them O's

and for that matter, how 'bout dem Nats!

I-95 Series! That's what I wanna see.

It was nice to see a positive piece about a former NBA player:

Got an email from someone today griping that one of my colleagues hadn't replied with some information requested. The emailer included the message she'd sent to my colleague. I received the complaint at 2:23. The email to my colleague was sent at 2:22. :nonono:

the NFL replacement refs surely suck

NFL mgmt/ownership are a bunch of cheap b@stards with the amount
of money they make vs the amount the dispute is over.

The situation really is awful. I don't really see what the NFL hopes to gain by this. In one article the proposed savings would be 80k per team per year(in other words the cost of 1000 beers per game at FedEx field prices).

The worst part is the replacement refs seem to be bad in a dangerous way more than a truly unfair way.

Unfortunately, they're both dangerous AND truly unfair.

I'm not one that usually blames officials for losses since, generally, fans only see what they want to see in terms of officiating. But in last week's Ravens game, we got gipped. They called a TD back because of offensive interference (in this instance, the defender didn't even see the damn ball and both players were fighting for position). That TD would have put the game away for Baltimore. Then, on the upcoming offensive possession for Philly, it was 1st and goal and Vick clearly intentionally grounded the ball as he was about to be sacked. The refs originally called it a fumble, then reviewed the play and called it a simple incomplete pass. Now, they were absolutely right to change the fumble (as it was clearly not) but not calling intentional grounding gave them the ball with a yard to go for the go-ahead score. Vick punched it in and Philly won by one damn point.

Then there's the inordinate amount of blown defensive pass interference calls that didn't get whistled (Torry Smith, in particular, would have had a near touchdown earlier in the game but the defender was grabbing his jersey as obviously as possible - even Dierdorf said it was basically inexcusable not to call it) while Baltimore got whistled for a more-than-questionable ruffing the passer earlier in the game that would have ended the Eagle's drive and stopped them from scoring.

It's not that the Ravens played well. We didn't and honestly, under most circumstances, we wouldn't deserve to win. But last Sunday, we played well enough. And that's all it should have taken. Dierdorf remarked after the game was over that Philly winning the game despite the incredible amount of turnovers was something he hadn't seen before. Well, Danny boy, there's a reason for that -- they SHOULDN'T have won.

Yeah it's more the fact that the refs have NO control over the game more than the blown calls. Blown calls happen even with regular refs. But the players do not respect the current refs at all. It's like when a substitute teacher comes in and the students just go crazy. Apparently one ref told Lesean McCoy he was on his fantasy team, and one ref who was supposed to be doing the Saints/Panthers game got kicked out last minute because he got caught with Facebook pics of him rocking Saints gear and expressing how much he loved the Saints.

Speaking of things that suck, man the weather is awful today. With the decline in temperatures(although 70s is still nice) and the early sun setting, looks like summer is officially over. Not gonna be long before we'll need to bring the hoodies and sweatpants back out of the closet.

miller, your Ravens certainly did get robbed. That was the most horribly officiated NFL game I've ever watched.

Back to something important... In the time it took me to write a response asking for clarification of the emailer's original request (3 minutes), said emailer sent a message to yet another colleague.

I could suggest a good therapist, but your colleague isn't here in HI, Nivek. :)

I probably shouldn't be the one to joke about anything sensitive. Perhaps your colleague is merely deceptive or that person could be in need of professional help.
