Personally, I think Beal is looking much improved, and is looking like he will be a stud. But, he will never be a prolific scorer type of SG that gets all the limelight. Which I think is perfect for us with Wall at the point. Beal seems like he will be the perfect jack of all trades guy to put next to Wall long term. Comparison = Hersey Hawkins? He is an excellent rebounder, a good defender, and Im sure he will shoot better when he doesnt need to set up most of his own shots.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Also he is listed at 6'3" but i swear he is almost the exact same height as Crawford.

DM, he measured out to 6' 4.75" at the pre-draft measurements, no?

Pretty sure he's listed at at least 6'4.

And i agree with pretty much everything you said. I don't foresee him ever being a great scorer, and definitely not a first or even second option for a contending team. Just doesn't have the ability to break defenders down off the dribble, not a great finisher due to him being a below the rim player, doesn't execute the pick n roll all that well (something that Harden excels at, sorry but i had to go there ), and a really disappointing shooter thus far, both off the dribble and catch and shoot. Of course, i expect him to get better at every facet with more experience, but some of his deficiencies - which i've already noted - are a bit alarming, especially his shooting ability, or lack thereof. His poor shooting has really surprised me, i remember watching him drain jumper after jumper (i can't even remember seeing him miss) when the Wizards worked him out before the draft. Of course, and empty gym doesn't quite have the same atmosphere as an NBA game. But still, i'm watching him out there miss OPEN jump shots with regularity, and it seems like he has good form and mechanics, so i don't know what to make of it.

Having said all of that, i think he has potential be a great third option for a contender. Despite his shooting woes thus far, i've been impressed with the rest of his game; his rebounding, passing and especially his defense. I think he'll be fine, i just hope his jumper comes around..

Yep, he's listed at 6'5" although I think that's rounding up.

I like Beal and I think he would turn out to be a solid player. That said, I would have drafted Drummond or Jeremy Lamb over him. He's been playing better lately. Not picking up his dribble under pressure and turning the ball over. He plays good defense and is a pretty good free throw shooter. What I'm surprised at is that the one thing that I thought he was gonna be a specialist at - shooting - he's not doing too well. I think he would be a terrible fit next to John if he doesn't start knocking those WIDE open shots down, because he will be getting a lot of them with John. Nice to see that he's not gonna be a one-trick pony though, but he still has to improve his handles. Maybe, that's what's stopping him from blowing past defenders and getting to the rim?

watched the game agains the Warriors and Beal was pretty invisible. It is good to see him putting up some solid numbers but he's doing it in a very quiet way. Id like to see a little more swagger. Hes very passive and when he drives it seems like its more to pass...maybe hed be better as a pg.

Anyway to pass up having Harden for Beal and Singleton was pretty dumb. Harden and Wall woulda been a nice back court. Oh well lets hope Brad finds his stroke and keeps improving. I'm sorry but the Wiz have to be the most boring team in the league to watch. Who the hell is thereto get excited about? Our game plan is Crawford jacksup shots if hes on were in the game if not were dead. Not a very good recipe for success if you ask me

Game starting to slow down for him. Finding his reads better. Likes playing with Crawford. It makes things easier for him.

http://www.nba.com/wizards/video/2012/1 ... mv-2322849

I like the comments about how he was trying to figure out what the team needed. That is the approach I like from a PG who is also a scorer. Feel the game out. Pass if you can to get others involved but when the offense struggles, that when you have to take on more of the scoring load.

It was his first game starting at PG. Hopefully things look better tonight at the start of the game. But other players need to step it up. I still don't like Randy's starting line up. Having Crawford out there is a good move in the right direction. It helps Beal. Now they need to add a post threat. If Nene isn't ready, then it has to be Kevin.

Crawford, Beal, Singleton, Kevin, Okafor. I wish is was
Crawford, Beal, Singleton, Kevin and Nene or Martin for Singleton if Martin is hot.

They still need to ride the hot shooting hand at SF between Singleton, Martin and Webster. None have proven to bring it consistently yet so its a game by game thing. Randy has to be quick to adjust at that spot.

Beal measured 6'3.25 barefoot, only .75" shorter than Lamb.

Beal, Crawford and Lamb were all essentially the same height. Beal has the better wingspan but Crawford has a slightly better standing reach (and both are a bit longer than Lamb). Beal has the best vertical leap and a way better max vertical.

It was Jeremy Lamb that people were talking about...although I really like Doron (great shooter) and wish the Zards had taken him in the second round (I think he was available).

Even though Beal hasn't gotten off to a good start i am not feeling any buyers remorse. Waiters actually has a lower TS% than Beal. Barnes looks like who we thought he was. TRob is doing nothing. Some people are touting Drummond but he only plays 18 minutes per game and is probably a beneficiary of garbage time stat padding.

Brad seems to be coming along really well.

Last night's line was better than solid -- 15 points on 12 shots, with 7 boards, 4 assists, a steal and a single turnover. He passes my personal eye test -- seems to have excellent court awareness, particularly for a teenager.

I was thinking the same thing--he seems to be coming along, but still hasn't done anything to make me think the Wiz got a steal with the #3 pick.

The one thing I am still concerned about is the season's a quarter of the way through and we've yet to see Beal have an 'eff you' game. Call me crazy, but is it too much to want Beal to drop 35 points in a game on ridiculous shooting? There hasn't been one moment all season where I thought Beal is the best player on the floor.

He should have been traded for Harden and I'm affraid I'll hold this against Beal his entire career.

Yes, at this stage of his rookie season -- at just 19 -- it's way too much to ask and you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

There have been numerous posts about how Beal stacks up nicely to other rookie teenaged SG's. Hell, look at the rookie game logs of Lebron James (and Beal is nowhere near the prospect Lebron was).

lebron didnt break 30 until game 17 and had some terrible shooting stretches.

Kobe didn't break 30 until the 19th game of his second season and didn't score 35 until game 27 of his third year. You absolutely have to give Beal time.

Agree with Fish. I don't think we should be looking for Beal to score 30+ points. What I want to see is steady improvement, poise and the maturity/ability to deal with the frustration that comes from losing. I think we're seeing all three from Beal, which says an awful lot for a 19 year old who's being asked to do more for his team than most other rookies.

Last 6 games:
15.7 ppg
4.2 rpb
3.7 apg
1.2 stls
42.3%/31.0%/79.2%
107 Otg
103 Dtg
eFG%: 48.1
TS%: 53.1

Not too shabby. Definitely not great shooting #s but he's getting better.

Not all star numbers, but he's put together some nice games.

His TS% is better than I thought. I'll take 53.1% from a rookie.

Ya he's getting to the line more and making his FTs. He's also only averaging 1.3 TOs

The game is finally slowing down for Beal. He seems to be a talented passer and rebounder. And I love his effort on defense, this pick is looking better and better.
