Houston has had only 2 losing seasons in the past 11. They won 50+ games 4 times during that time frame despite major injury problems. This past season they won 45 games and still have enough cap space to sign a max free agent.

Houstons "purgatory" would be better (by a mile) than any stretch of Wizards/Bullets play over the last 30 years.

Slim Thug is the real winner here. His "sales pitch" on Twitter generated a good amount of free publicity. And now, he gets to claim a little credit after the fact.

Dwight also made a sound financial choice. Pundits were saying Howard risks losing an extra year and $30 mil with the Lakers, but he'll get more money since Houston has no income tax. And at the same time...Howard's gonna get another max contract after this one is over so....yeah, the amount he actually left on the table maybe a couple of million, if that.

Also, what does this say about Dallas? Strategically did 1 year contracts in hopes of landing a major free agent star and have struck out.

Uh oh. Not so fast, says Woj:

I gotta think that Amick triple-checked his source, though. I still think Howard's heading to HOU.

If I were LA, I'd try and sign a FA for 1 year. Milsapp may go there for just the PT and exposure for being in LA.

LAL can only sign minimum contracts and use the mini mid level of $3 million since they're over the lux tax

This has nothing to do with Ernie. We weren't getting any of these guys that have signed or been traded to other teams, so it's completely pointless/moot/waste of pixels to even bring up Ernie in any of this.

RAF - I don't think Ji means in this particular trade/offseason but rather his lack of creativity and vision that could potentially lead to deals like this in the future.

Ji - don't mean to speak for you but I happen to agree.

Is LA going to do a S&T with Houston?

Or is Dwight going to leave 30 million on the table?

According to Darren Rovell, he's leaving $9 mil on the table, not $30 mil as it's been reported. I'm sure Dwight can make some of that up in endorsements.

How is that possible? Was LA not going to offer him the max? That sounds wrong.

They may be factoring the lack of income tax in Texas? Good question

The maximum contract Houston can offer without doing a S&T is 4 years for 88 million. The contract LA offered Dwight was 5 years for 118 million.

Also, I'd wager LA offers Dwight far more opportunities to make money in endorsements than Houston would. Even when you factor in Texas state income taxes, Dwight is going to have to walk away from an immense amount of money and an extra year unless LA agrees to a S&T. He'd be the first to ever do it.
