Totally agree on starting Hump over Nene. While there's a lot to like about the chemistry that's developed between Gortat and Nene, there's even more to like about the rebounding, toughness and athleticism (at least compared to Nene) that Hump would bring to the starting lineup. It would also reduce Nene's minutes and the wear-and-tear on his aging body.

And bringing Nene off the bench would give the Zards a scoring big man off the bench and, as you say, lessen the need to play Seraphin.

I rarely feel the urge to defend Wittman, but I think it's justified in this case.

1. I think Humphries is more suited to be an energy guy off the bench. NBA games are long and you've got to get some production in the late first, early second and early fourth quarters. Hump has an advantage over plenty of second team PFs whereas he wouldn't look as good against first teamers.

2. We're dealing with personalities here. My guess is that it means more to Nene than to Hump to start. Players have to buy in to the pecking order.

3. All that said, if we really want to see Hump in the starting lineup, just wait a bit. Nene is overdue for his annual 15 game hang nail injury.

Getting Beal and Webster out there is really going to space the floor and open things down low for Gortat, Nene, Humphries, and lanes for Wall to penetrate. John will have an easier time getting to the hoop, and when he kicks it out we've got 2 of the best 3 balls in the league. This offense is really gonna gonna kick it up a gear.

And look what this does to the bench... Miller, Webster, Porter, Humpries top reserves.. spot duty for Seraphin, Blair, Gooden, Rice, Butler, Temple.

Wizards don't need his Defense whenever he comes back to suit up.

He said his return remains “on schedule,” which would mean a return by the end of November. On Thursday, Webster participated in half-court work with contact.

Back in practice in a limited capacity, but not feeling any pain. All good things. Get better soon Webster. Hopefully we get '12-'13 Webster this season :P

I'm a little worried that Webster's presence may eat into Otto's minutes.

One would hope Witt sees Webster as the backup 2. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing a bench unit of Miller-Webster-Butler-Porter-Humphries. Outside shooting, length, rebounding.

I would guess it would be temples. Start Beal, rotate through with Porter, Webster and Rasul with Pierce. It'll be good just to get Temple out and a real shooter in. I don't think what Butler is doing is sustainable but he shouldn't get cut out before Temple.

Porter has played well enough so far that I think Wittman trusts him. Porter plays a pretty heady game. Wittman isn't going to bench him solely because he's young an inexperienced. If Webster takes Porter's minutes, hopefully it'll be because Webster is actually outplaying him. If that happens, I'll live with it.

The best case scenario is that Pierce moves to stretch four for about 10 minutes a game to yield more minutes for Webster and Porter at SF. I'd love to see a rotation like this:

SG: Beal(34), Webster(14)
SF: Pierce (14), Webster (12), Porter (20)
PF: Pierce (10)

That's 34 minutes for Beal, 26 for Webster, 24 for Pierce and 20 for Porter.

So are we officially on-the-hook for Webster's 4-year deal now that he is playing a little?

To trigger his guaranteed money Webster needs to play 102 games over the next two seasons.

Assuming he plays the rest of this season that's 50 games, and he'd need to play in 52 games next season.

He can't miss more than 66 games in three seasons. So far, he has missed 37. He needs to miss 29 of the next 127 games.

So if he goes down and misses 29 more games in a row what are our options ?

According to Shamsports, the contract merely says that Webster must play in 180 games. That would suggest that DNP-CD's are equivalent to games missed due to injury, but there's no way to be sure.

BTW, if Webster does miss 66+ games, then his 4th year can be bought out for $2.5M. He's not completely off the books as that $2.5M would still count against our cap.

Anyone know if that 180 games is just regular season, or if playoff games count? Webster played in 11 playoff games last year. I'm guessing they don't, but it could make a big difference.
