Your definition of building block appears to be very different from mine. I don't view undersized defensively challenged shot creators with OK passing skills to be building blocks. I view them as scoring roleplayers, and relatively easy to obtain on the free agent market.
Ask Dallas fans if he was essential or not important. I suspect they'd feel very differently.
Being a 6th man should have nothing to do with it. Terry finished games and was extremely clutch. Harden in OKC (now KMart) and Ginobili were sixth men too. Are they easily replaceable? Terry finished games, played starters minutes and was the 2nd offensive option behind Dirk. You make Terry sound like Eddie House and he was much more than that.
To me, your looking at a type of player (i.e. undersized shot creators) and making a generic statement instead of judging a guy based on what he's actually done.
