Oladipo could be a nice role player, but I don't think the Wiz can draft him. He will (and should) barely play with Beal in front of him.

Short neck, long arms, he'll be able to defend bigger than he is. Not superior footspeed but elite handspeed, good heads-up court recognition, not advanced handle, excellent positioning and anticipation. I like his ability to stop penetration and to make steals off the dribble more than the pass.
Athletically he reminds me of James Harden who looked a step slow in the NCAA but managed to score super-efficiently regardless, and sped up as he lost his gut. Oladipo may not be as proficient a scorer, but his defensive instincts will make him a coach favorite at the next level. No superstar, but a solid role-player.

This sums up how I feel too. I like the player, but I like Zeller more.

I'm thinking he can be a slightly better version of Tony Allen.

YODA stands for Ye Olde Draft Analyzer, which is what I was calling it from time to time when I started posting results from it. Someone on the board shortened it to YODA.
It's a stat-driven process based on research (mine and the work of many others) into what helps a team win and what doesn't. One of the things I've done to some extent in building YODA is examine predictors for future NBA success. What kind of statistical production suggests success, and what doesn't. I incorporated physical measurements/attributes, and I have adjustments for age/experience. There's also an adjustment based on the level of competition a player faces.

tontoz: Ran Len through the traps and YODA has him with a mid-2nd round grade. Good rebounding and block numbers. High in turnovers and fouls. Poor 2pt% for a big man.

Ugh. I suspected he might not fare well. Every time i watched him before the Duke game i came away disappointed.

Len does have weak hands and he's not strong enough in post. He's not a bouncy athlete like any of the great 7 footers of the past. He's too weak and lacks explosive quickness to be a star on offense. He is a little too light in the cakes to be a stud on defense, though he is already a good defender.
The best thing for his game would be to refine his post moves and to get his stamina and strength better. If he had guards that got him the ball in position to score it would help immensely, but Len does not. Next season, the Terps should have at least one top-notch PG. Len would probably be well served staying in college one more year, but he won't.
Bye bye Beal.

Would love for the Wizards to be in a position to draft him.
Someone made the J Crawford slumped shoulders comparison. Yeah, he is kind of like that. Has the herky jerky as well. In a lot of ways, Victor is like a Crawford 2.0
Here are some clear differences.
- Victor is a wicked defender. Top notch both one ball and off
- He is a smart young man. I thought I heard them saying during the Mich game that he will graduate in 3 years.
Smart goes a long way in my book and while I like scorers, scorers that can defend are in a whole nother class.
At one point, Magic was commenting he is a Wade/Jordon combo. He has really nice hang time. Me, I thought he was kind of Deng-ish.
Someone on here said he doesn't have good handles. I don't think that is true at all. He has very nice handles.
I liked this young mans game first time I saw if and nothing has changed. He will be a successful NBA player and it will happen in year one.
Does he fit on the Wizards since they already have Beal ? Sure he does. Nothing wrong with having two really talented guards. And I think he would be able to play some SF and even PG.
We will see. We don't even know our draft position. What I think it is clear Victor has a nice game and any team that gets him will be getting a quality player that should be able to contribute from day one.

I was not a Len fan from what I saw of him initially and I was suggesting to you to stay away, but here are some good things about him. He has gained weight and he has a great motor. He seeks contact. He will get stronger in time. Eventually he may become a B Lopez type player. But its going to take some time.
Zeller - I was not impressed with what I saw in the Michigan game. Not impressed at all.

You lost me completely at Jordan Crawford, but got me back at Luol Deng - I made that comparison several weeks ago to my friends. A shorter version and Dipo won't play the 3, but similar efficient and smart games with elite defense.

NBADraft.net has Jordan Crawford as Oladipo's NBA comparison. I think they're either blind, insane or trolling.

Re: Official 2013 Draft Thread - Part I
Oladipo is ahead of McLemore IMO. I get a better more focused version of Mickael Pietrus when he came out. Pietrus was a helluva defender when he first came out (defended all 3 perimeter positions) but he didn't have the intensity, smarts or was as skilled as Oladipo. Pietrus was unfulfilled potential to me. Oladipo seems likely to fulfill his. Oladipo handles aren't advanced but they are more developed than McLemore or Pietrus who was mostly a spot up shooter.
I think Oladipo is a safe bet to be a valuable piece to a good team. Not an all-star. But an asset. Like Doug Christie was to those Sacramento Kings teams back in the day.
I think he can probably play some three but is mainly a two. He could play alongside Beal in some lineups. Not a perfect fit for us but certainly not useless either.

If the Wizards somehow got Oladipo and Porter in this draft, they'd make me somewhat happy considering this sh*tty season.
Oladipo is rising up the draft charts, and so is Porter. Unfortunately I don't see a way of getting both.

I'm with Dat on this with Dipo. I think it's way too early to even whisper MJ or Wade comparisons. I don't think he's going to be that type of scorer. But I could easily see him being the 3rd option/shutdown defender type on a contender, cracking a couple all-star games, and perhaps being a DPOY. But superstar? Let's temper our expectations a bit, and I love the kid.

In their defense it seems they last updated his profile in June 2012. Then again what parts of these strengths and weaknesses match up with Crawford? This is why I stick to DraftExpress.com.
NBA Comparison: Jordan Crawford
Strengths: Oladipo is an explosive athlete with great leaping ability … Has nice size at about 6’5, 215 lbs, and great length and a good build ... Fantastic first step and moves well laterally … A very tough and gritty player who fights for everything … Excellent rebounder for a guard averaging over 5 per game last season … Absolutely relentless on defense and is versatile enough to guard multiple positions … Not one to be outworked on either end of the court … One of the best finishers in the country around the rim due to his athleticism and body control … Moves well without the ball and doesn’t need to have plays drawn up for him to be effective … Hard worker off the court and improved his free throw percentage by 14% this past season ...
Weaknesses: Oladipo doesn’t have much of an offensive foundation at this point … Has a subpar jump shot with mechanics that lack consistency … Not much of a ball handler at this point … Can be out of control and turnover prone … Lacks a great basketball IQ … While showing huge defensive upside, he still needs to improve his fundamentals … Fouls a bit much (2.5 topg) for a wing prospect who doesn’t even play 30 mpg ...
Overall: At this point he’s more of a pure athlete then an offensive player, but he has time to grow there ... Defensively he should be able to translate to the NBA quite easily ...

Well the grass is always greener on the other side? Right?
I'm certain some team would trade their top 5 pick for Wall. Maybe multiple teams depending on need.
Of course that's because this draft is especially weak at the top. The only ones that seem to love or even like this draft is the draftniks of the world like CCJ, hands, etc.
I think most gm's would take Wall over the players in this draft. Especially since Noel tore his ACL.
If I was a GM on the team with the #1 pick in 2013 and I didn't have a star PG, I'd trade that #1 pick for Wall. Not because Wall is a star right now, but because I'd feel confident that he'd excel outside of the Wizards organization and at 22, there's still a ton of room for growth. Plus the top of the draft is filled with so many question marks.

Fair enough, but will you be singing the same tune when we are forced to match a max or near-max offer for Wall? You can be damn sure that those 7 turnover games are going to be a whole lot more painful when he is earning a max salary.
By my count, 14 of the last 29 top 5 draft picks (excluding Wall himself) are better than Wall. That's about a 50/50 chance of an upgrade. And that doesn't count another handful of player picked outside of the top 5 who are also better. I like those odds, particularly when the draftee will be cheap for 4 more years rather than due for a max contract in 2014.
