This has to be the most amazing statistic I have ever seen. There have been a handful of "goons" in the NBA who foul more than they score, (guys like Greg Kite or Chris Dudley) but at least they rebound. I wouldn't be surprised if nobody has ever achieved 30 fouls before getting 30 points or 30 boards. Good God! Get him off the team! He is one of the worst busts of the decade.

12 players since 1985-86 have accomplished 30+ personal fouls while scoring fewer than 30 points and grabbing fewer than 30 rebounds.

The list:

  1. Michael Curry
  2. Vesely
  3. Granville Waiters
  4. Jeff Cross
  5. Cedric Bozeman
  6. Eric Snow
  7. Jay Humphries
  8. Aleksandar Radojevic
  9. Evan Eschmeyer
  10. Mike Williams
  11. Michael Stewart
  12. William Cunningham

Clearly a precursor to multiple All-Star appearances.

Shout out to Nivek and his Moral Victories tracker for getting linked to by Grantland:

You may have heard that the Washington Professional Basketball Team has not won a game this season. They have been close in several and played hard in most, and they certainly lead the league in moral victories.

This is way cool. :D

Yeah, I gotta say that, from a consumer's perspective, Simmons' Grantland experiment has been a huge success. I read more articles there than I do on ESPN.com proper.

Anyway, congrats for getting the rub. Don't let your new-found fame change you. :)

I am guessing that there are too many people under the delusion that the Wizards are going to make the playoffs this year. But, for those who are holding out hope that once John Wall returns, the Wizards can turn things around and make a run at the playoff, nine teams in the East have records better than .500. That means evens if the Wizards go 38 and 23 (a 62.2% winning percentage) the rest of the way, it still might not be good enough to make the playoffs. I guess it is time to start talking about the next draft.

Vesely update:

Digging deeper into the numbers, I see that Vesely isn't quite as epically sucky as I had thought. His incredible feat of accumulating more fouls than points, rebounds and assists has been duplicated 20 times. Here is a list of the 20 players who have totaled more fouls than points, rebounds or assists, while playing at least 200 minutes:

Code: Select all
Player         Season  MP   PF  PTS TRB AST
Jason Collins  2007-08 1172 194 140 178 25
Duane Causwell 1996-97 581  131 118 127 20
Greg Dreiling  1991-92 509  123 117 96  25
Fabricio Obert 2009-10 650  121 83  105 51
Mark Madsen    2006-07 473  100 61  87  10
Martin Nessley 1987-88 336  89  48  82  16
Johnny High    1983-84 512  84  46  66  51
Bill Curley    1998-99 372  83  78  51  14
Eric Montross  1999-00 332  81  40  72  7
John Edwards   2005-06 296  76  70  48  5
Hasheem Thabe  2010-11 373  76  53  75  4
Felton Spencer 2001-02 248  73  29  50  3
Jason Collins  2008-09 422  73  57  70  11
Mario West     2007-08 269  61  59  48  13
Jake Voskuhl   2008-09 240  60  35  59  8
Jim McIlvaine  1998-99 269  59  48  54  2
Keith Askins   1998-99 415  58  53  44  10
Brian Cardinal 2009-10 267  56  48  29  24
Mark West      1983-84 202  55  37  46  13
Michael Curry  2004-05 249  39  30  27  15

Jan Vesely     2012-13 191  37  31  34  11

Vesely is sitting pretty at 191 minutes, anxiously awaiting to join the club. The question is, will he maintain his remarkable pace for an entire season, or will he at some point "break out" and manage to score 10 points or so in a game and ruin his average.

By the way, LOL at Jason Collins.

So Vesely is essentially stuffing the stat sheet for the Wiz the same way Fabricio Oberto did in 09-10.

Every time I've done one of these "record of futility" searches, I've always been impressed with how many Wizards/Bullets players show up.

Oberto did it as a Wizard. Oberto was epically bad. Check out these games scores over 57 games:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... elog/2010/

Francisco Oberto, per-36 minutes: 4.6 pts, 5.8 rebs, 2.8 asts, 0.6 stls, 0.5 blks, 2.0 tos, 6.7 fouls

Unbelievably, Jan Vesely is approaching Oberto-bad territory as a Wizard.

Jan Vesely, per-36: 5.8 pts, 6.4 rebs, 2.1 asts, 1.1 stls, 0.8 blks, 1.9 tos, 7.0 fouls

Last season, however, Vesely scored more, rebounded more, and fouled less. He can't be as bad as he he's playing now.
