I think Jan will be the final nail in the coffin for Grunfield. My only hope is that even with Wall's return, Jan continues to do what he's doing.

if jan and i had a contest where we count. a) how many times the ball enters and b) how many times it hits the rim. if he's at the freethrow line and i was at the halfcourt i'd beat him or think i'd come close

My wife is 5''0", 105 lbs and she can draw iron on a FT.

Vesely at the line makes me sad.

They should have him shoot his freethrows Rick Barry style.

Can we stop calling the guy a bust already? have some morals.

The guy was kinda ok in the Summer League, and when playing along side Wall.

maybe thats whats wrong with his game at the moment. he assist Wall. But no Wall at the moment.

Can we agree on that?

Have some love for the guy people. not really his fault 100% for being drafted at number 6. Lot of pressure is on his shoulders. Same with Beal.

You're right. We shouldn't be so judgmental on a player drafted in the top-6.

Morals? Dude's making $4mil a year and he sucks at his job. Call it what it is. It's not like anyone's saying he's a bad human being -- who the hell knows -- but he's decidedly a bad basketball player.

QFT.

He is terrible(see my sig), but I have nothing personal against Vesley. He can't suddenly be good. The anger/blame goes to the FO who thought the kid was worth taking with a lotto pick.

I agree with the above few posts. My anger is with management, more so than Vesely. My only anger towards Vesely is in his free throws. That's fixable and the fact that he hasn't addressed this makes me think he's not working hard enough. The rest of his game sucks because, well, he sucks. He lacks the fundamental coordination and lower body strength to be much of a basketball player. That's EG's fault, not Vesely's.

I'm with nate on the free throws. Jan missing FTs so badly shows me his coordination and confidence are both lousy.

it is so easy to shoot a free throw. Jan should practice shooting with one hand, starting 2 feet, 4 feet, 7 feet etc until he reaches the free throw line. At first he should try to make just two in a row, then three in a row from the same spot. He should repeat this with his non-dominate hand. What that will do is automatically improve his balance.

In addition to simply shooting free throws, he should practice a few low dribbles with his shooting hand, and then continue with a shot with just one hand. Low dribble right, then shoot. Low dribble left then shoot. Eventually, he should be able to feel his shot from the soles of his feet to his finger tips. His legs need to be square and his release needs to be high, imitating a goose neck on the release.

The great thing about shooting with both the right and the left hand individually, is that when you go back to the proper form, and use your non-dominant hand to guide, the motion feels very natural.

Nate, as an NBA player Jan needs to at least shoot 60-70% FTs. That is very easily achievable.

To shoot 3/15 FTs is laughable.
Bye bye Beal.

Anyone want to make a bet on whether Jan Vesely's FT% will exceed the Wizards' win percentage? Right now, Vesely leads by a hair. He is 3 out of 15. The Wizards are 3 out of 19.

 That'd be a hilarious prop bet for Vegas to propose.

I think our win % will exceed Ves's FT %...eventually.

Great tips, if he wasn't already 22 years old. It's hard enough for someone who knows how to play basketball to stay in the NBA much less someone who has to learn on the job - and on a stinker of a team like ours to boot.

Vesely is like almost all of our players. He's a guy who can't create his own shot. Our entire team is constructed around a star point guard slashing and dishing. Of course, one could see we would tank without him. And of course the entire team will be leagues better with him -- not great, but a playoff team. I'm in no way endorsing Vesley. I'm just saying he is at best a role player who needs a star demanding double teams for him to do anything offensively -- like most of the team.

The best skill coach my daughter ever had believed in exactly this.
It's a great warmup exercise. Just stand right in front of the basket
and flip the ball up and in. You need to be able to do it 10 times in a
row, preferably no rim. Then start extending your range. Jan badly
needs to do this. That and Mikan drills.

The air-balled FT's and hot potato basketball passing are related obviously. In a re-draft Jan might be a mid 2nd rounder. After workouts, perhaps not drafted at all.

The Wiz staff were supposedly unanimous about picking Jan according to Mike Lee, but now I think that quote was another clever leak by Grunfeld himself. If the staff were truly unanimous, then Grunfeld is surrounded by Rico's :)
I think it's a lie that they were unanimous....one would hope right?
