BIG NEWS: Rondo might be done for the season with torn ACL.
Bye bye Beal.

How weird would it be for both the Lakers and the Celtics to miss the playoffs? They are two old teams whose time has passed. Neither has a shot at winning anything without trades.

I think the Lakers can still turn it around. Come on. They have Kobe, Nash, Howard, Gasol. Their problem is getting the pieces working well together.. i.e. Coaching.

If they don't make the playoffs, this will go down as one of the great organizational failures since that Minnesota Vikings team with all those all stars and Hershel Walker. I mean come on. They are spending

100M on this roster
That is the most in the league by 13M

LAL has a big game against OKC at 3:30. Then their schedule gets easier.

http://espn.go.com/nba/team/schedule/_/ ... les-lakers

They can make up a lot of ground quickly. Their season will determined over the next 10 games. If they reel off something like 8-2, they are right back in it.

They just had a players only meeting to get on the same page.
http://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?id=400278361

Looks like Howard got more touches and shots. Kobe only took 10 shots in 35 minutes. That has to be a record. It shows he is trying. I doubt that happens every night but WOW.

KOBE with 14 assists and only 10 shots. :o

Yeah, Rondo is done:

The Celtics announced Sunday that guard Rajon Rondo has torn the ACL in his right knee and will undergo season-ending surgery. ESPN on ABC was the first to report the extent of the injury.

So, now the playoff race for #8 is going to come down to Detroit, Cleveland, and the Wizards most likely.

Without Rondo Boston has no chance IMO.
Bye bye Beal.

Ouch. I didn't know. That said, kind of amazing they are still in the game against Miami.

68-64 in the 3rd

Some kool-aid from me...the Wizards are now 8th in the league in opponent fg% and 9th in opponent PPG. They are officially a top 10 defensive team, which is a big step in the right direction.

Now they really need a small forward that can light it up. Rudy Gay, unfortunately, might have to be that guy, although he makes entirely too much money.

Screw it, the Wiz should try and go for the 8th seed. The Bobcats are going to win the race for the worst record for sure. Orlando is clearly trying to pace for it as well.

Yes, so at the very least we have to win 38 games total, or go 27-12 from here on out. Not impossible.

Above are my predictions. I have us losing to the elite teams LAC, MIA, OKC, SAS, NYK, except for the last week game against the Heat where I assume they will be resting their big 3. This gives us a record of 30 - 9 from here on out, finishing with 41 wins total. I think I have been very conservative in my estimates as I don't have them upsetting any elite team like we did against MIA and OKC already.
As stated before they only need to win 27 games, not 30. Call me crazy but an 8th seed is looking more and more plausible.

Nice.

You have them going on an 11-0 run. :D

This man is defiantly on his second jug of Kool-aid.

I love it. Chug away.

I would put the Sixer in there. If they can mix Bynum in well, they will be better then Cleveland.

No doubt Cleveland see what we see which should have them amp'd up. They have a decently easy schedule coming up. Lets see if they are committed to tanking one more year or not.

Oh my

Allen with a 3 pter.
RA Missed the second to tie the game. LeBron rebound and hit the 3 from the top of the key to tie it.

PP doesn't get the call on the drive.

Its OT baby.

I'm chugging from the bottle. To be fair I do have them on a 0-4 run as well. Our schedule to end the season is pretty easy.

If this wasn't the Kool-Aid thread, I'd point out that we'd pretty much need to be injury free from this point out. As in no more injuries to Nene, Okafor, Booker and company. So in addition to continuing our focus for the rest of the season, we have to do so without injuries.

They intentionally got all their injuries out of the way early. I think I read something about that. "There will be no more injuries." Per team policy, no details were given.

Yeah. You gotta consider Philadelphia to be the favorites for the 8th seed right now, with Detroit and Boston also in the mix. I don't think Cleveland has a chance.

The loss of Rondo is huge. We are 9 games behind the Celtics. We are only 6.5 games behind the next best team, Philadelphia; and we play them in two nights.

If Philly loses to Memphis Monday and we beat the Kings; and then we beat Philadelphia on Wednesday, they will 18-27 and we will be 13-31. That's just a 4-game difference in the loss column with 38 games to go.

Nate. It that some purple substance I see on the corner of your month. :D

Man there is going to be a bad hangover if/when the kool-aid runs dry. But for now, Kook-Aid for everyone.

Yes. I believe it is.

I didn't think a 29-11 record (finishing 40-42) was possible. But with the Boston situation, it looks entirely possible that 37 wins makes the playoffs. I do think this team can conceivably go 26-14 over the next 40 games.

Goal should be to go .500 the rest of the way, which would be ~21 wins and ~31 wins to finish the season.
