It has been a really cruel twist, having to be a fan of this Wizards team with Ernie Grunfeld allowed to commit "GM malpractice" all these years.

The man is so bad it is hard to fathom.

There were at-least two teams that were known to have been interested in acquiring Crawford, in the end the Wizards bottom-line was getting Crawford off the books. As ESPN pointed-out, we could have waited until Summer and traded Crawford on draft-night. The Crawford chip was another Washington giveaway.

Don't you think GMs around the league know this, too? And he had become a cancer, interfering with the good team dynamic the Wizards have built. So the Wizards essentially cut him. And there is some value to eliminating his $2.2 million contract next year. While alone it doesn't open up any cap space, if we make other moves this summer (trade Okafor or Ariza), then that space will become valuable. Yes, I would have preferred a 2nd round pick as well, but we have no idea if anyone offered that.

....and on top of that...most players picked in the second rd turn out to be worthless, non contributors anyway.

Good teams get value in the second round, bad teams don't. The Spurs get value in the second almost every year.

Who do we give the ball to when we're down 3 with 4 seconds left? Im not sure Beal has the handles yet.

Hmmm. I wish I had a good answer to that.

Best I can come up with is....

Randy doesn't really run any isolation....

I guess when he does, it will be Wall.

Hey. We all know Crawford didn't look like a long term piece on this team. His personality just didn't fit along with the types of players they are trying to add. One another team, that won't matter, but here it does. What makes this hard to except is the endless stupid discussions on who Randy played ahead of him and then how they benched him which didn't help his value. The cherry on top was when they traded him and what they got for it. Maybe Jason Collins helps. They did need another center. Kevin isn't really a center as much as a PF.

Personally, I'm happy for Crawford and glad I don't have to watch another game wondering if Randy will bench him the entire game while Wall is going 1-12 with 7 turnovers and Price is playing in front of him. Just glad the self imposed drama is over.

At least now I can watch him play again since he'll be getting minutes in Boston. When he gets it going, he is fun to watch.

So I guess we have.

Wall/Price
Beal/Temple/Webster
Webster/Trevor A
Nene/ and in no order Kevin/Singleton/Booker/Ves
Okafor/Collins

If Wall stops shooting from the outside, that gives up 6-7 NBA reliable players with Temple the 8th as a nice defensive specialist.

I wonder if Collins will play or they still go with Kevin S and just use him as insurance for the quick hook nights.
If not, PF is looking really crowed.

Curious.

Do the team that get value in the 2nd tend to be team that are good team with late firsts such that the second rounders are going onto a loaded team.. i.e. SA, LA, etc ?

Something makes me think that would be more likely then a 2nd making good on a crap team.

Remember back around 2005 when each ticket had different words on it, like "Justice", "Dedication", "Teamwork", etc?

Next year's tickets should say "He a bust, he a bust" or "Don't think it can't get any worse"

sorry but I am starting to call Conspiracy with NBA on this.
Nobody is this bad of a GM for so long and still have a job...

Is EG doing something for the NBA for some kind of return in cash? Same with Ted?

I notice the NO trade which was a team being sold and also had number 1 draft pick. Wizard's basically gave them more cap room, and helping them.
EG helping a rigged team that the NBA was trying to sell.

Then EG does these bad drafts which gave other teams the chance to get talent. notice how he keeps drafting bad euro players and leaving the talent for other teams to improve. He doesnt even use D league right, which shows his true intentions isnt to make the team better. that was a coincidence side effect that likely never meant to happen.

now here we are with the Jordan Crarford trade.
He helps free up cap space on another popular team like the celtics who been dying this season. So he hels and free up their cap space, while sending the Wizard's best player to them for nothing.

This gets the Celtics more talent for no cost. basically making Sterns pockets bigger by putting more talent on his superstar teams, which already get the NBA big money.

its a conspiracy.Prove me wrong. Nobody this bad of a GM and stay a GM unless big hands are in the background pulling strings.

I am calling BS on this franchise, EG, and TED.

I know they are trying to rebuild the culture but at least get something in return for it.

Had they held onto Dray, they could have used him while Nene was out. Even today they still don’t have a back up center better then Dray. They could have actually got something for him.

Move ahead. They didn’t have a PG all year until Wall returned. Price is marginally better then Mack. He isn’t the answer. They couldn’t score at all in the first quarters. They would go down 15 pts every first quarter. It was Crawford off the bench that would get him back in the games. Crawford should have been at PG and with Wall back, he fits as a back up PG and SG. He should have been getting 25 minutes a game. Raise his value then move him if you don't like his Steez.

They got NOTHING for either of these players and not only did they get nothing. They are still paying Dray for like 3 more years at 8M a year. Productive, Dray and Crawford should have returned something of value.

Crawford was the leading scorer on the team until they benched him and he got better every year. He is one of the 4 best iso scorer in the league. Dray has a PER of 22 averaging 10 pts 5.5 rebounds, 1 steal in 19 minutes on .492 shooting

That isn’t cheap. Its just down right stupid.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/wi ... story.html

Grunfeld said the deal came together at “the last minute,” as it became evident that Crawford wanted a bigger role with the team, and was agreed upon nearly an hour before the NBA’s 3 p.m. deadline.

“He never came in and said” he wanted a trade, Grunfeld said, “but his actions and the way he has been, he hasn’t been the happiest person, but he’s a good player and we wish him luck in his new situation.”

===
So it boils down to Crawford wanting a bigger role on a team that has Price and Temple playing ahead of him. How dare him.

Hearing those fans calling for him while watching what he was seeing on the court must have been eating him alive. Crawford is an emotion type who wants to get out there and do battle. This is a 3rd year NBA player who has posted a triple double. We aren't talking a DL player. That why he has the towel over his head. And that why he tossed the jersey to the supportive fans. He was disgusted.

Anyone that has played sports know what it feels like if you are not in the game. You want in. If your a competitor. You want to be out there in the mix. If your team is losing and your coach doesn't put you in, it eats at you. I could only imagine what it would be like sitting there listing to fans calling my name while my team is losing and still not getting in. Specially if I have been a starter on that team and now I'm not even playing while a scrub like Price is out there. Hell yeah I would be pissed. Hell yeah, I would have tossed my jersey to my fans.

Since John Wall returned from his injury, Jordan Crawford has only averaged 10.7 MPG.

There is no denying that since Wall came back, Crawford has been in the proverbial "doghouse."

Now, let's think about something. Following this trade, and Ernie's brief comments about the trade, at least one thing is clear - the Wizards decided they were done with Crawford. At this moment in time, we knew that Crawford was not a part of our current or future plans. I think it's fairly safe to assume that we knew that for at least a month. You could argue that we weren't 100% sure of that when Wall first came back because we didn't know how good Wall would be or how the team would perform with Wall and without Crawford, but chances are we had a feeling this was coming at that point in time. Wall came back 1/12. Today was 2/21. So I think it's pretty safe to safe that we knew that Crawford was not a part of our current or future plans for at least 3-4 weeks, if not more.

Now, if that's the case, then we are actually idiots for handling the situation we did. Let's say that 3 weeks ago we decided that we liked how our team was performing with Crawford on the end of the bench, and that we didn't need him anymore, and actually wanted him gone. At that point, we surely must have been operating under the assumption that he would be traded at or before this year's trade deadline.

That means we had 3 weeks, at least, to find someone to take him off our hands. Conventional wisdom would say that we should "showcase" Crawford to the league, perhaps giving him even more minutes than he was previously getting, in order for him to pad his per game stats and to make it seem like we actually wanted him on our team to the rest of the league. Then he'd be a more appealing asset in a trade to other teams, and we'd have more leverage and be able to demand more in return for him, pretending that we value his presence on our team and don't want to give him up unless we get something of solid value in return.

But that's not what we did. Instead, we continued to sit him at the end of the bench. Sometimes he didn't even make an appearance in the game. Other times he'd get 15-20 minutes, which isn't enough, but at least it's SOME exposure. Then the last week or two he logged 0 minutes per game. So what happened as a result? First, his per game stats dropped, making him less appealing to other GMs who might have been fooled by his productivity on a per game basis. Second, and more importantly, we made it clear to the rest of the league that Crawford wasn't even good enough to crack the lowly Washington Wizards rotation. In doing so, we also made it clear to the rest of the league that we didn't value him, and that we had no interest in keeping him on our team going forward. Basically, we pissed away any leverage we could have possibly had.

The result is that instead of being able to field offers from the rest of the league and demand more in return for Crawford, we were in a position of begging teams to take him off our hands. And the result of that is the trade that was made today. Expiring contracts of beyond subpar players (aka nothing) for Crawford.

We actually could not have handled the situation any worse.

Return to Washington Wizards
