Too small a sample size from KS and Singleton to rank them ahead of Beal, who is probably the third best FT shooter on the team, which ain't bad considering how good Wall and Webster are. Beal needs to be above 80% though.

Nene is the guy who's killing us. He needs to get that # way up.

That's head-scratchingly good and makes you think - If only he'd go aggressively to the hoop more - which he's shown signs of doing the last 2 games that he played more than a minute. Dare I say, you can play him in late game situations.

Beal has always looked like he has a little hitch in his foul shot that isn't there on jumpers.

Seraphin is hard to take seriously since he has only taken 22 foul shots on the season.

The Wizards are currently ranked 9th in defensive efficiency. Obviously Gortat isn't as good as Okafor on D but i think Okafor got too much credit for the defense last year.

Anybody else notice that the Wizards' team assists totals have been pretty ordinary as of late?

Wasn't this supposed to be the Wizards M.O. on offense?

Feels like the decline in this area has flown under the radar. Could be due to the Wizards clinching a playoff berth and still winning games in spite of it.

Doesn't seem like there's much noise being made about this and I don't think that's a good thing heading into the playoffs.

ESPN is now posting Real Plus Minus numbers which are adjusted plus minus numbers that factor teammates, opponents, etc. While no one statistic is perfect, I think these numbers are really interesting because they evaluate players from a completely different angle than normal box score stats do. The numbers measure the things that don't show up in the box score and perhaps help to identify underrated players.

Looking at the ESPN numbers, I note some very interesting trends:

- Big men are all that matter on defense. Of the top 40 names on the defensive on/off numbers, only 3 are non-bigs: Iguadola, Bledsoe, and Danny Green. Everyone else is a center or a PF. It seems that only bigs are in position to significantly affect team defense.

- Gortat isn't bad, but not great either. He ranks 25th in the league in defensive impact. He ranks 13th among starting centers but it's a relatively large group with limited variation. Really, there isn't much separation between the 10th best starting center on the list (Bosh) and the 17th (Perkins).

- The list makes me really want to make a hard pitch to trade for Larry Sanders. He's statistically the best defensive player in the league and only Kevin Garnett comes close. Sanders is a disaster on offense though. He was much better offensively last year so maybe it's only an aberration.

- Offensively, I find it extremely interesting that the only bigs to rank in the top 40 are the following players: Dirk, Love, Frye, Anderson, Collison, Aldridge, Bonner, Griffin, and Wright. Notice a trend? Stretch 4's are a HUGE deal in today's game and I think they continue to be underrated.

- It looks like the guy to go after is Ryan Kelly. He has the 47th best offensive plus/minus in the league, the 11th best among PF's, and a stretch four. He's a RFA but LA might not match any decent offer because they're preserving cap room for Kevin Love.

- I've said this before and I'll say it again. These numbers strongly suggest to me that we need to try and move Ariza to a stretch four. It's done wonders for Paul Pierce and the Brooklyn Nets. Ariza is taller than Pierce and could put on the necessary weight with the proper offseason regimen. If he'll play 20 minutes of PF a game, I'd gladly pay him a 3-year or 4-year deal.

Makes sense. Makes perfect sense. The biggest piece in the shot chart pie is inside. It would make sense that having a good inside defensive presence would make a difference in team defense. That has been something Ernie hasn't taken enough importance to in the past.

Its better than being bad. I'll take average any day. It kinda sucks that we're most likely gonna overpay for average play though. But that is pretty much where I would rank Gortat, right in the middle.

Ehh....If you get Larry Sanders, you better be sure that Otto Porter can make up for some of the scoring deficit cause then it will essentially be like having Okafor again. Wiz were a top 5 defense but dead last in scoring. It would be interesting though being really good at defense again instead of average.

Its funny how the roles have reversed now in the game of basketball. Now you want bigs to be good around the perimeter and you want guards to be your inside scorers. I guess the NBA now is to the point where a stretch PF is becoming more of a necessity than a luxury for spacing purposes.

As they should. I am actually content with keeping Gooden as our stretch 4 as long as he is cheap. I wish we would follow LA's plan in trying to get another superstar player on our roster. But we shall see how the front office works this roster out.

Interesting.
At the same time March is the best Wiz in the estimated number of team wins attributable to each player (WAR) and #22 in NBA with 9.17. Next Zard is Wall with 8.07 and it's #33. Polish Machine in this indicator is 4th center of the league behind DA Jordan, Noah and Howard.

If I was GM, Singleton, KeSera and Rice Jr would be out of this team after the season. Big Brazilian is a big question mark. I like his power, but all these injuries and minutes restrictions really hurt Zards. His free throw percentage is awful. Maybe worth to try make a trade like Nene-Love or something like that...
Otto should play more minutes, we need to develop his skills.
