One of president Phil Jackson’s big decisions this season is whether to trade J.R. Smith, and the club had recent conversations with the Pacers regarding ex-Knick Chris Copeland, according to a league source.

http://nypost.com/2014/11/03/source-kni ... land-deal/

Copeland is putting up points off the bench so far this year, and JR doesn't seem like he'd fit in with Indy so this doesn't seem likely. But I am curious to see how active Phil will be at the deadline, especially with Kevin Love now in Cleveland.

Drew Gordon got called up by the 76ers.

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/ ... -d-league/

I liked him in the 2012 draft. He and Aaron Gordon come from what appears to be a very supportive, close family.

There are currently at least 4 sets of brothers in the NBA.
Bye bye Beal.

The Memphis Grizzlies have re-signed guard Kalin Lucas and center Hassan Whiteside.

Lucas (6-1, 186) originally was signed on Sept. 25 and averaged 3.1 points and 1.0 assists on .429 shooting in 7.9 minutes in eight preseason games for Memphis before he was waived on Oct. 25.

Whiteside (7-0, 275) originally was signed on Sept. 25 and recorded 3.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.00 blocks on .500 shooting in 8.2 minutes in five preseason contests before he was waived on Oct. 22.

Shout-out to Dat, you may still be proven right about Hassan Whiteside.

Now Whiteside to the Heat, you need rim protection.

The Heat probably are a better chance for minutes vs. the Grizzlies. Especially with Birdman out.

yep, he has definitely made a jump this season. Really across the board, rebounding, passing, ball handling, overall shooting...

The Bulls got two rotation players out of that draft, we got zero.

Although the Bulls did give us Kevin Seraphin :D

If Chicago had kept their pick instead of offloading Hinrich's contract, I wonder who Chicago would have drafted. They potentially could have taken Bledsoe or Bradley.

Agreed -- but really I meant I love him as a person, love his attitude and the sense of his character you get from that story.

Kanyewest -- ?? Butler was picked in the 2011 draft.

Closg00 -- and we had the opportunity to get 3 rotation players, even better than their 2. Even more amazing, we could have had Kawhi Leonard (who was my pick at #6), Kenneth Faried (my pick @#18) and Chandler Parsons (ditto @#34).

And, in fact, we *did* get a rotation NBA player, Shelvin Mack, and waived him.

All in all, a true triumph!

I know. I also know that Eric Bledsoe and Avery Bradley were from the 2010 draft. I'm just pointing out that even the Bulls make mistakes.

Speaking of mistakes, Philadelphia. But what they've done hasn't been by mistake. They're so bad, they're a reason to change the draft lotto rules. In a historically bad Eastern Con, they're the historically bad team of all times. On purpose! If there ever was a year that there was a college team that could become better than an NBA team, this might be it. Not now, but maybe by the end of the season, Kentucky might be almost as good as Philly.

The draft lottery change I'd like to see would go something like this:

- all 14 teams that don't make the playoffs
- 8 teams that lose in the first round of the playoffs

That's the lottery pool.

Un-weighted drawing for the top five spots. Then fill out draft position by worst record.

That "guarantees" that the worst team gets at least the 6th pick. But, that's a sucky "prize" because there's historically a drop-off at 6.

I think it ends tanking immediately. There's no benefit to missing the playoffs. No one will tank a playoff series to be part of the lottery.

Through last night's games, Philly had one player who rated above average in my system: Henry Sims with a 122 (where average = 100).

Aaron Gray is a stand-up guy, I don't recall a similar story.

Stephan Curry - 2009 - Randy/Foye trade
Harrison Barnes - 2010 - Brad Beal
Klay Thompson - 2011 - Jan Vesely
Draymond Green - 2012 - Sato

4 of 5 GSW starters were players Grunfeld passed on. With the exception of Barnes (luke-warm board opinion), the others were advocated for on the board at the time of their perspective drafts.

I thought you hated posts like this bragging about who people would have picked. But like I said, everyone does it, including you so hopefully you can just except that's what people do on a sport board and get past that moving forward.

Here is what the board was thinking going into that draft and after. Since you were not here yet, none of your suggestions were documented here.

Some gems of insight along with some pretty funny predictions.

Here was a good one.

Kawhi Leonard would be the WORST option out of all. He can't shoot a lick, and had terrible efficiency numbers in college. He ranked as one of the worst offensive players from an efficiency standpoint according to DX.

On a team with one shooter (who's streaky), that's not a pick I would even remotely consider. Quite frankly, I have no clue how that guy even made it into lottery consideration...before the college season was up, he was seen as a mid-1st rounder.

And a REPLY

Gotta co-sign this. Leonard was a poor offensive player in college. The rebounding will translate and it sounds like he can defend but right now he's a situational player at best. I think he'll have a role in the league but so does Dominic McGuire and right now that's the comparison I keep coming back to. A deluxe version of McGuire. That's NOT what I'd want with the sixth pick

I don't remember anyone advocating for Klay Thompson and if there were people, it was a small voice. Then again, drafting just about anyone else would have been better than Jan Vesely.
